Steve Howe is the name of:
Stephen James "Steve" Howe (born 8 April 1947) is an English musician and songwriter. He is best known as the guitarist in the progressive rock group Yes. He has also been a member of the Syndicats, Bodast, Tomorrow, Asia, and GTR, as well as having released 19 solo albums as of 2010.
Howe was born on 8 April 1947 in Holloway, north London and is the youngest of four children. He grew up listening to brass band music. He cites several influences from his parents' record collection including Les Paul and Tennessee Ernie Ford. In addition, Howe listened to classical guitar and jazz, citing Barney Kessel as a primary influence, "his playing was a remarkable mixture of 'single line' and 'chords', ya know, which inspired me to believe that any guitarist who doesn't understand chords won't be able to play much in the single line because they relate so much". Howe also credited Wes Montgomery and Chet Atkins, whom he first heard in 1959, as a major inspiration. Howe said he took from Atkins, "the idea that one guitarist could play any kind of guitar style." Howe attended Holloway School.
Steven Roy Howe (March 10, 1958 – April 28, 2006) was an American professional baseball relief pitcher. He played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers and New York Yankees.
A hard-throwing left-hander, Howe was the Rookie of the Year in 1980, saved the clinching game of the 1981 World Series, and was an All-Star in 1982. However, his career was derailed by problems with drug and alcohol abuse. He was suspended a number of times by Major League Baseball for drug-policy violations, but several times returned to show flashes of his former brilliance.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, Howe was a two-time All-Big Ten selection at the University of Michigan. He made his Major League debut at the age of 22 in 1980 and would eventually become the National League Rookie of the Year that year, the second in a string of four Dodger rookies of the year (Rick Sutcliffe, Fernando Valenzuela, and Steve Sax were the others). He saved 17 games during his ROY season, establishing a new rookie record. The following year, Howe helped the Dodgers win the World Series against the New York Yankees.
Lord, help us do well
All that we have to do
Feet on the ground, heads in the clouds
Live a life that's free and easy
Pall and good
Show us the trend
There came a time, "No more," we said
"To leave it in their hands divine."
Show us the trend
Set out sails, burnt our boats
Independence ruled the day
While pleasure stole the night
Epochs past, lives were spent
Until a new band came
Did not intend to spend
Cease from your haste, they said
Leave time to repeat
Your aims, they are misplaced
You don't have to race, they cried
Oh Lord, help us do
All we have to do
"With negligent regret,
