Teleostomi is a clade of jawed vertebrates that includes the tetrapods, bony fish, and the wholly extinct acanthodian fish. Key characters of this group include an operculum and a single pair of respiratory openings, features which were lost or modified in some later representatives. The teleostomes include all jawed vertebrates except the chondrichthyans and the extinct class placodermi.
The clade Teleostomi should not be confused with the similar-sounding fish clade Teleostei.
The origins of the teleostomes are obscure. They are traditionally assumed to be descendents of the Acanthodians ("spiny sharks") from the Late Ordovician Period; however, more recent discoveries show that the "spiny sharks" are actually a paraphyletic assemblage leading to Chondrichthyes, and that placoderms like Entelognathus are more closely related to true bony fish. Living teleostomes constitute the clade Euteleostomi, which includes all osteichthyans and tetrapods. Even after the acanthodians perished at the end of the Permian, their euteleostome relatives flourished such that today they comprise 99% of living vertebrate species.
They call it America, the land of the free
But we're not even free to walk ourselves across the street
They set up these laws that tell us what to do
But the only ones who benefit are the ones that make the rules
They take away our rights to give to someone else
And we are left stripped of our own human wealth
How can they say we're free when we can't even breath
Scared to be imprisoned by their own human greed
[Chorus:]
Where is our freedom - To go where we please
Where is our freedom - To do as we choose
Where is our freedom - To say what we like
Where is our freedom - To be a human being
They give us drugs and alcohol to make our minds weak
And say we can't use them so our curiosity will peak
They make us do their dirty work and we don't even know it
By hiding their destructive deeds in the guise of rebellion
They instigate false issues,
And while we have our backs turned they're gaining more power
They use the media as a tool to spread their lies
And the masses will believe them 'cause the media never lies
[Chorus]
[Repeat first verse]
