Telenorte
Telenorte was a Chilean Television network launched in 1966 and closed in 2001. The network had stations in Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta and La Serena.
History
Until 1995
Telenorte appeared in 1982, after privatization of the television network owned by the Catholic University of the North into a single channel. The original channel started in 1966, in Antofagasta, called Red Educativa de la Universidad del Norte (Educational Network of the University of the North). The network was to come to other cities in the following years.
After creation of the network came an era of transmissions originating with Canal 13 in Santiago de Chile via microwave transmission. Programs were broadcast live, such as Sábado Gigante, that once were available as rebroadcasts only.
The last major transmission with Canal 13 was in 1988. Later, Telenorte signed with Chilevisión in 1990, with deals with Red Televisión and Megavisión coming later. Finally, Telenorte signed with UCV TV in 1994 until 2001.
