Tecun Uman (Tecún Umán, Tecúm Umán, Tecúm Umam, Tekun Umam etc. 1500? – February 20, 1524) was one of the last rulers of the K'iche' Maya people, in the highlands of what is now Guatemala. According to the Kaqchikel annals, he was slain by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado while waging battle against the Spanish and their allies on the approach to Quetzaltenango on 12 February 1524. Tecun Uman was declared Guatemala's official national hero on March 22, 1960 and is commemorated on February 20, the popular anniversary of his death. Tecun Uman has inspired a wide variety of activities ranging from the production of statues and poetry to the retelling of the legend in the form of folkloric dances to prayers. Despite this, Tecun Uman's existence is not well documented, and it has proven to be difficult to separate the man from the legend.
In 1522 Hernán Cortés sent Mexican allies to scout the Soconusco region of lowland Chiapas, where they met delegations from Iximche and Q'umarkaj at Tuxpán; both of the powerful highland Maya kingdoms declared their loyalty to the king of Spain. But Cortés' allies in Soconusco soon informed him that the K'iche' and the Kaqchikel were not loyal, and were instead harassing Spain's allies in the region. Cortés decided to despatch Pedro de Alvarado with 180 cavalry, 300 infantry, crossbows, muskets, 4 cannons, large amounts of ammunition and gunpowder, and thousands of allied Mexican warriors from Tlaxcala, Cholula and other cities in central Mexico; they arrived in Soconusco in 1523.

Uman (Humań) was a privately-owned city of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Uman was first mentioned in historical documents in 1616, when it was under Polish rule. It was part of the Bracław Voivodeship of the Lesser Poland Province of the Polish Crown. Its role at this time was as a defensive fort to withstand Tatar raids, containing a prominent Cossack regiment that was stationed within the town. In 1648 it was taken from the Poles by Ivan Hanzha, colonel to Cossack leader Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and Uman was converted to the administrative center of cossack regiment for the region. Poland retook Uman in 1667, after which the town was deserted by many of its residents who fled eastward to Left-bank Ukraine. From 1670–1674, Uman was a residence to the Hetman of right-bank Ukraine.

You're the angel in my pocket
You're that whisper in my head
You're the perfume on my dirty shirt
The favorite words I've ever said
You're the edge I just stepped off of
You're the sunlight through my window pane
You're the road I wanna break down on
In the pouring rain
'Cause I know I'm not easy to hold
But you've reached me, baby
You saved me from me before I was too far gone
Girl, I love you for taking me on
I spent my life just spinning my wheels
But I wasn't getting nowhere fast
You took my foot off the gas
You brought me miles from where you found me
And now I ain't going back
'Cause I know I'm not easy to hold
But you've reached me, baby
You saved me from me before I was too far gone
Girl, I love you for taking me on
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
(Taking me on)
You were strong enough to carry me all the way
'Cause I know I'm not easy to hold
But you've reached me, baby
You saved me from me before I was too far gone
(Too far gone)
Girl, I love you for taking me on
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
(Taking me on)
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
(Taking me on)
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
I was reckless and helpless and hurting
I was lost, I was wrong, I was searching
