The Brazos River (
i/ˈbræzəs/ BRAZ-əs), called the Rio de los Brazos de Dios (translated as "The River of the Arms of God") by early Spanish explorers and the 11th longest river in the United States at 2,060 km (1,280 mi) from its headwater source at the head of Blackwater Draw, Curry County, New Mexico to its mouth at the Gulf of Mexico with a 116,000 km2 (45,000 sq mi) drainage basin.
Geography
The Brazos proper begins at the confluence of the Salt Fork and Double Mountain Fork, two tributaries of the Upper Brazos that rise on the high plains of the Llano Estacado, flowing 840 mi (1,350 km) through the center of Texas. Another major tributary of the Upper Brazos is the Clear Fork Brazos River, which passes by Abilene and joins the main river near Graham. Important tributaries of the Lower Brazos include the Bosque River, the Little River, Yegua Creek, Nolan River, the Leon River, the San Gabriel River, the Lampasas River and the Navasota River.
Initially running east towards Dallas-Fort Worth, the Brazos turns south, passing through Waco and the Baylor University campus, further south to near Calvert, Texas then past Bryan and College Station, then through Richmond, Texas in Fort Bend County, and into the Gulf of Mexico in the marshes just south of Freeport.

Brazos is the moniker of Martin McNulty Crane. Originally from Austin, Texas, Brazos gained recognition in 2009 with the self-released debut album, "Phosphorescent Blues". He and the band are currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
Overview
Brazos began as the solo recording project of songwriter Martin Crane, who debuted the band late 2007 with the EPs Feeding Frenzy and A City Just as Tall. Brazos, in its original incarnation, went on to open for Grizzly Bear, Shearwater, Vampire Weekend, The National, Iron & Wine, Wye Oak and Bowerbirds, as well as a national tour with local pals, White Denim.
Phosphorescent Blues was self released in 2009 to positive reviews but after touring took its toll Crane "packed everything he owned into a 1990 Honda Civic station wagon that he'd had since he was 15 and moved to New York." and signed to Dead Oceans.
With new bandmates Spencer Zahn (bass) (who moonlights in Empress Of's band) and Ian Chang (drums) in tow, the band working on its Dead Oceans debut which ultimately became Saltwater which saw international release May 28, 2013.
