The Taiwan Power Company (Taipower; Chinese: 台灣電力公司; pinyin: Táiwān Diànlì Gōngsī) is a state-owned electric power utility providing electric power to Taiwan and off-shore islands of Republic of China.
Taipower was established on 1 May 1946. In 1994 a measure which allowed independent power producers (IPP's) to provide up to 20 percent of Taiwan's electricity should have ended the monopoly. Since 1 October 2012, Taipower allied with Taiwan Water Corporation to provide cross-agency integrated service called Water and Power Associated Service as an integrated water and power services that accepts summary transactions between the two utilities. On 11 October 2012, the Economics Committee of the Legislative Yuan cut Taipower's budget for power purchases from IPP.
In July 2015, the Executive Yuan approved the amendments to the Electricity Act which was proposed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in which will divide Taipower into two separate business groups under different management team; a power generation company and a power grid company. The measures were taken to improve efficiency within the company and to encourage positive competition within the industry. The separation shall be done within the next 5 to 9 years.
Taiwan Power Company Football Club (Chinese: 台灣電力公司足球隊), often shortened to Taipower (Chinese: 台電), is a Taiwanese (Chinese Taipei) semi-professional football club based in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung City. The club was founded in 1979 and is affiliated with Taiwan Power Company, the country's national utility. Nicknamed Nan-ba-tien (Chinese: 南霸天, lit. Southern Overlord), Taipower is the most successful football club in Taiwan, having won 14 league titles, notably in 10 consecutive seasons from 1994 to 2004. With the exits of Flying Camel and Taipei City Bank F.C. in the late 1990s, Taipower and Tatung F.C. are the only two remaining football clubs competing in Taiwan's highest-ranked Enterprise Football League. Taipower became the first Taiwanese club to win a major Asian title when they won the 2011 AFC President's Cup at home in Kaohsiung.
