Tahiti

Tahiti (/təˈhiːti/; French pronunciation: ​[taˌiti]) is the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia; this overseas collectivity of the French Republic is sometimes referred to as an overseas country. The island is located in the archipelago of the Society Islands in the central Southern Pacific Ocean, and is divided into two parts: The bigger, northwestern part Tahiti Nui and the smaller, southeastern part Tahiti Iti. The island was formed from volcanic activity and is high and mountainous with surrounding coral reefs. The population is 183,645 inhabitants (2012 census), making it the most populous island of French Polynesia and accounting for 68.5% of its total population.

Tahiti is the economic, cultural and political centre of French Polynesia. The capital of the collectivity, Pape'ete, is located on the northwest coast with the only international airport in the region, Fa'a'ā International Airport, situated 5 km (3.1 mi) from the town centre.

Tahiti was originally settled by Polynesians between 300 and 800 CE. They represent about 70% of the island's population with the rest made up of Europeans, Chinese and those of mixed heritage.

Tahiti (stylized as TAHITI; Korean: 타히티) consist of five-members. A South Korean Kpop girl group formed by Dream Star Entertainment in 2012. The group debuted on July 23, 2012, with the single "Tonight". Their fanclub name is "Black Pearl".

History

Pre-debut

Prior to debuting, Tahiti launched a sitcom-style reality program called 'Ta-dah! It's TAHITI' with their original line-up. The show was picked up by television stations in South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Following the ending of 'Ta-dah! It's TAHITI', it was announced that Ari and Hanhee left the group and would be replaced by Ye Eun and Dasom.

2012-2013: Debut, line-up change, Hasta Leugo, Pretty Face, Five Beats Of Hearts'

Only July 23, 2012, Tahiti released their debut single "Tonight". Promotions for the single began on July 25, 2012, on Show Champion.

In October, Tahiti unveiled teaser videos and images of their upcoming single "Hasta Luego", which revealed Ye Eun, Dasom, and EJ were no longer with the group. The three members were replaced with Ari, Jinhee, and Miso.
