    Tae (Korean name)

    Tae, also spelled Tai, is a rare Korean family name, a single-syllable masculine Korean given name, and an element used in many two-syllable Korean given names. As a family name, it is written with a hanja meaning "great", while in given names, it may have a variety of meanings depending on the hanja used to write it.

    As a family name

    As a family name, Tae is written with only one hanja, meaning "great" (太). The 2000 South Korean Census found 8,165 people with the family name Tae. In a study by the National Institute of the Korean Language based on 2007 application data for South Korean passports, it was found that 28.5% of people with that surname spelled it in Latin letters as Tai in their passports, vs. 57.1% as Tae. People with this surname trace their origins to various bon-gwan, including Namwon, Jeollabuk-do and Yeongsun-myeon (영순면), Gyeongsangbuk-do, both in what is today South Korea. They claim descent from King Go of Balhae.

    Sattawat Sethakorn

    Sattawat Sethakorn (ศตวรรษ เศรษฐกร; rtgs: Sattawat Setthakon; born 26 April 1982), also known by his stage name Tae (Thai: เต๊ะ; rtgs: Te) or his Chinese name Tang Chenyu (Chinese: 唐宸禹; pinyin: Táng Chényǔ), is a Thai television and film actor active in the Chinese-language entertainment industry. He began his career in Thailand, moved to Taiwan in the early 2000s, and has since worked on productions in mainland China as well.

    Career

    At the age of 19, Sethakorn decided to move to Taiwan to develop his career further. He quickly improved his Chinese language abilities, only occasionally needing translation assistance in the course of his work.

    Personal life

    Sethakorn was born in Kanchanaburi. His maternal grandfather was of Teochew Chinese descent, while his other grandparents were native Thai people. His parents are schoolteachers. He has one sister, younger than him by three years. He attended high school at the Sethaburbampen School, where he graduated after completing all the required coursework in just two years. He got married in a ceremony held in Japan in June 2013.
