Taco stand

A taco stand is a food stall, food cart, taquería or restaurant that specializes in tacos and other Mexican dishes. The food is typically prepared quickly and tends to be inexpensive. Many various ingredients may be used, and various taco styles may be served. Taco stands are an integral part of Mexican street food. In Mexico, taco stands are commonly referred to as taquerías, because originally a taquería was typically a street vendor. However, many taquerías today are restaurants located in buildings. Taco stands may be located at roadsides and in areas where people gather, such as at outdoor mall areas. Taco stands are typically located outdoors, although the term is also used at times to refer to taco restaurants. Some taco stands are temporary operations, set-up for events such as fairs and festivals.

Meats used include beef (such as carne asada and cabeza), pork (such as al pastor), shrimp and fish, as used in fish tacos. Additional ingredients used include cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, various vegetables such as onion and cilantro, and hot sauce, among others.

"Stand" is a song by American pop singer–songwriter Jewel from her fourth studio album, 0304 (2003). Written and produced by Jewel and Lester Mendez, and released as the album's second single in October 2003 in the United States and later on internationally, the single failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached number sixteen on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, and also became Jewel's third consecutive chart-topper on the Hot Dance Club Play.

Todd Burns from Stylus Magazine wrote that "It is a strong first song and while the lyrics are vaguely suspect, they can be ignored in favor of the driving beat."

Commercial release

The single edit saw no alteration from its original version. However, it was listed as Single Mix on some promotional singles, which is no different from the album version.

"Stand" was released in two formats in the U.S.; the CD single contains "Stand" and the 0304 trumpet-driven track "Leave the Lights On" as a coupling track, while the CD maxi single contains the song's club mixes. Both singles contained two different covers. International singles received the title track and some club mixes for its final release.

He summed up his review by saying to "remove all remaining charm and originality from the lyric, drain all life and energy from the production, and add the most pathetically wimpy lead vocal imaginable, and you have this single."

Taco

A taco (/ˈtɑːkoʊ/ or UK /ˈtækoʊ/) is a traditional Mexican dish composed of a corn or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling. A taco can be made with a variety of fillings, including beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables and cheese, allowing for great versatility and variety. A taco is generally eaten without utensils and is often accompanied by garnishes such as salsa or chili pepper, avocado or guacamole, cilantro (coriander), tomatoes, onions and lettuce.

Etymology

According to the Real Academia Española, publisher of Diccionario de la Lengua Española, the word taco describes a typical Mexican dish of a maize tortilla folded around food ("Tortilla de maíz enrollada con algún alimento dentro, típica de México"). The original sense of the word is of a "plug" or "wad" used to fill a hole ("Pedazo de madera, metal u otra materia, corto y grueso, que se encaja en algún hueco"). The Online Etymological Dictionary defines taco as a "tortilla filled with spiced meat" and describes its etymology as derived from Mexican Spanish, "light lunch", literally, "plug, wadding". The sense development from "plug" may have taken place among Mexican silver miners, who used explosive charges in plug form consisting of a paper wrapper and gunpowder filling.
