TVR Iași

TVR Iaşi is one of the six regional stations of TVR - the Romanian National Television Station. Its headquarters are in Iaşi. TVR Iaşi programmes are broadcast in the Moldova Region of Romania, covering all eight departments in the north-eastern part of the country. The station broadcasts daily as a regional station, from 06.30 until 23.00, and, at the same time, produces programmes for the national (TVR 1, TVR2, TVR3, TVR Cultural) and international Romanian public channels. It first broadcast in 1991.

Many of the important names in the Romanian media starting as members of their staff. In 1992, the station joined CIRCOM Regional (the European Association of Regional Television Stations), and, after a year, hosted the first ever organized CIRCOM Conference in a Central and East-European country.

Iași

Iași ([jaʃʲ]; also referred to as Jassy or Iassy) is the largest city in eastern Romania and the seat of Iași County. Located in the Moldavia region, Iași has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. The city was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia from 1564 to 1859, then of the United Principalities from 1859 to 1862, and the capital of Romania from 1916 to 1918.

The social and cultural life revolves around the Vasile Alecsandri National Theater (the oldest in Romania), the Moldova State Philharmonic, the Opera House, the Tătărași Athenaeum, a famous Botanical Garden (the oldest and largest in Romania), the Central University Library (the oldest in Romania), the high quality cultural centres and festivals, an array of museums, memorial houses, religious and historical monuments.

Iași (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈjaʃʲ]) is a county (județ) of Romania, in Moldavia, with the administrative seat at Iași. It is the most populous county in Romania, after the Municipality of Bucharest (which has the same administrative level as that of a county).

Demographics

As of 20 October 2011 census, Iași County had a population of 772,348. On the other hand, according to the 2012 data provided by the County Population Register Service, the total registered population of the county is as high as 873,662 people.

The population of Iași County today is nearly double what it was sixty years ago.

Geography

This county has a total area of 5,476 km². It lies on a plain between the Siret River and the Prut River. Two other rivers run through the county: the Bahlui River (on the banks of which lies the city of Iași) and the Jijia River.

TVR is an independent British manufacturer of high-end sports cars. The company manufactures lightweight sports cars with powerful engines and was, at one time, the third-largest specialised sports car manufacturer in the world, offering a diverse range of coupés and convertibles.

Wilkinson era

Founding

Trevor Wilkinson (14 May 1923–6 June 2008) was born in Blackpool and left school at 14 to start an engineering apprenticeship at a local garage.

In 1946, he purchased an old wheelwright's workshop in Beverely Grove, Blackpool, to start an engineering business that he named Trevcar Motors. Initially, the company performed general engineering work (not always automobile related), and would also refresh and service cars and trucks. In 1947, local auto enthusiast Jack Pickard joined the company. Trevcar Motors was subsequently renamed to TVR Engineering (dropping several letters from Wilkinson's first name), and it continued to find general mechanical engineering work through the following years.

Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha (RTR, English: Radio-Television Swiss Rumantscha) (formerly known as Radio e Televisiun Rumantscha (English: Radio Television Rumantscha)) is a Swiss broadcasting company (part of SRG SSR) which offers programming to Romansh-speakers in Switzerland and around the world.

History

The first radio program in Romansh was broadcast on 17 January 1925. The person responsible for this broadcast was Felix Huonder. Regular Romansh programming began in 1943. Las Cristallas, the Romansh "radioscola" (radio school, or lectures delivered by radio broadcast), premiered on 27 January 1955.

Il Balcun Tort, the first television program in Romansh, was broadcast on 17 February 1963. This commemorated the 25th anniversary of Romansh's becoming Switzerland's fourth national language.
