No Vacancy (Merle Travis song)

"No Vacancy" is a song written by Merle Travis and Cliffie Stone in 1946. The best-known version of the song is Travis' own, which reached #3 on the country charts in that year.

The song's lyrics tell, in first person, of a World War II veteran who returns and finds nowhere to live: "All along the line it's the same old sign waitin' for me./No Vacancy, No Vacancy"

Reportedly, "No Vacancy" got Travis his first major solo recording contract. Cliffie Stone brought the idea for the song to Travis and then brought the demo to Capitol Records after Travis wrote and recorded the song. Lee Gillette at Capitol liked the song, signed Travis, and "No Vacancy" became his first hit.

The song has also been recorded by Glen Campbell (on his first album, Big Bluegrass Special (1962)) and Ricky Nelson (1966, on Bright Lights & Country Music).

Plot

The film is about the various people who inhabit the seeding Pink Motel in Los Angeles. Two men wake up with hookers, then proceed to accost a beauty-obsessed woman (Lolita Davidovich); the Latino motel owner (Joaquim de Almeida) is angered after finding his daughter (Patricia Velasquez) wants to marry a white man; a young woman (Christina Ricci) awakes to find a stranger (Timothy Olyphant) in her bedroom.

Television

Television is a telecommunication medium used for transmitting sound with moving images in monochrome (black-and-white), or in colour, and in two or three dimensions. It can refer to a television set, a television program, or the medium of television transmission. Television is a mass medium, for entertainment, education, news and advertising.

Television became available in crude experimental forms in the late 1920s. After World War II, an improved form became popular in the United States and Britain, and television sets became commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions. During the 1950s, television was the primary medium for influencing public opinion. In the mid-1960s, color broadcasting was introduced in the US and most other developed countries. The availability of storage media such as VHS tape (1976), DVDs (1997), and high-definition Blu-ray Discs (2006) enabled viewers to watch recorded material such as movies. At the end of the first decade of the 2000s, digital television transmissions greatly increased in popularity. Another development was the move from standard-definition television (SDTV) (576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution and 480i) to high-definition television (HDTV), which provides a resolution that is substantially higher. HDTV may be transmitted in various formats: 1080p, 1080i and 720p. Since 2010, with the invention of smart television, Internet television has increased the availability of television programs and movies via the Internet through services such as Netflix, iPlayer, Hulu, Roku and Chromecast.

Töv Province

Töv (Mongolian: Төв, lit. "central") is one of the 21 aimags (provinces) of Mongolia. The national capital Ulaanbaatar is located roughly at its center, but the city itself is administrated as an independent municipality.

Geography

The Aimag includes the western part of the Khentii Mountains, the mountains around the capital, as well as rolling steppe in the south and west. The most interesting body of water is the Tuul River, which crosses Ulaanbaatar and later joins the Orkhon River.

Population

The Töv aimag is populated primarily by Halh Mongols, major minority group of Kazakhs declined at intercensal period of massive out migration to the Kazakhstan, rest of minority groups grew off in migrations.

Traffic

The central traffic node is the enclave Ulaanbaatar. The city includes the largest station of the Trans-Mongolian Railway and the Chinggis Khaan International Airport. A small airport with an unpaved runway also exists in the aimag capital Zuunmod.

Culture

Manzushir Monastery is located near Zuunmod in the Bogd Khan Mountain national park. It was founded in 1733 and used to be the home of 20 temples and 300 monks. Most of it was destroyed by the communists, yet the last temple was restored after democratisation and hosts a small museum today.
