T-Mobile

T-Mobile International AG is a German holding company for Deutsche Telekom AG's various mobile communications subsidiaries outside Germany. Based in Bonn, Germany, its subsidiaries operate GSM, UMTS and LTE-based cellular networks in Europe, the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The company has financial stakes in mobile operators in both Central and Eastern Europe.

The T-Mobile brand is present in 13 European countries – Austria, Croatia (as Hrvatski telekom), Czech Republic, Albania, Germany (as Telekom), Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Globally, T-Mobile International subsidiaries have a combined total of approximately 230 million subscribers. T-Mobile International is the world's fifteenth-largest mobile-phone service provider by subscribers and the fourth-largest multinational after the UK's Vodafone, India's Airtel, and Spain's Telefónica.

T-Mobile UK

T-Mobile UK was a mobile network operator in the United Kingdom, owned by Deutsche Telekom since 1999, and originally launched as One2One. In 2009, Deutsche Telekom and Orange SA announced that the T-Mobile network was to be merged with Orange UK in a joint venture, EE Limited to form the UK's largest mobile network. EE continued to offer services under the T-Mobile brand until February 2015, when these were withdrawn in favour of EE plans.

History

The network was original launched as Mercury One2One, a GSM mobile network operated by the now-defunct Mercury Communications. It was the world's first GSM 1800 network when it was launched in September 1993. It was later rebranded as simply One2One, when it was operated for a short time as a joint venture between Cable & Wireless plc and American cable provider Mediaone Group, which had a number of investments in Britain dating back to its days as the US West Media Group. The network was purchased by Deutsche Telekom in 1999 and rebranded as T-Mobile in summer 2002.

T-Mobile US

T-Mobile US, Inc. is a wireless network operator in the United States and the German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom (DT) is a majority shareholder, through its holding company, T-Mobile International AG. Its headquarters are located in Bellevue, Washington.

T-Mobile US provides wireless voice, messaging, and data services in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands under the T-Mobile, MetroPCS and GoSmart Mobile brands. The company operates the third largest wireless network in the U.S. market with over 63.2 million customers and annual revenues of $29.56 billion. Its nationwide network reaches 98 percent of Americans, through its EDGE 2G/HSPA 3G/HSPA+ 4G/4G LTE networks, as well as through roaming agreements (see section: Radio frequency spectrum chart). As of 2011, J. D. Power and Associates, a global marketing-information-services firm, ranked the company highest among major wireless carriers for retail-store satisfaction four years consecutively and highest for wireless customer care two years consecutively.
