Syracuse Orange

The Syracuse Orange is the nickname used by the athletic teams of Syracuse University. The school is a member of NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference. Until 2013, Syracuse was a member of the Big East Conference. The school's mascot is Otto the Orange. Teams were previously known (until 2004) as the Orangemen and Orangewomen. The men's basketball, football, wrestling, men's lacrosse, and women's basketball teams play in the Carrier Dome. Other sports facilities include the nearby Manley Field House complex, the Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion, and Drumlins Country Club.

Syracuse Orange men's soccer

Syracuse Orange is the NCAA college soccer (football) team for Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. They are a Division 1 team in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Syracuse is currently coached by Ian McIntyre who has brought the team to three NCAA tournament appearances and the 2015 ACC Conference Title defeating Notre Dame 1-0. In 2014 McIntyre was named the ACC coach of the Year.

Success after Syracuse

The student-athletes that have found professional soccer success after Syracuse are Chris Aloisi, captain of the 2003 team, was drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer and was a member of the Houston Dynamo during its run to the MLS Cup 2006.

Richard Asante, an All-BIG EAST and All-Northeast Region selection in 2006, became the latest member of the Orange to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft. He was taken with the first pick in the third round (27th overall) by Toronto FC.

In addition, the Orange has had a player selected in the USL First Division College Draft in eight of the last 10 years, including 2006 when Ezra Prendergast was chosen by the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Prendergast was also picked in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire. Syracuse has also had players compete in the NPSL, WISL and USISL.
