Reset (computing)

In a computer or data transmission system, a reset clears any pending errors or events and brings a system to normal condition or an initial state, usually in a controlled manner. It is usually done in response to an error condition when it is impossible or undesirable for a processing activity to proceed and all error recovery mechanisms fail. A computer storage program would normally perform a "reset" if a command times out and error recovery schemes like retry or abort also fail.

Most computers have a reset line that brings the device into the startup state and is active for a short time after powering on. For example, in the x86 architecture, asserting the RESET line halts the CPU; this is done after the system is switched on and before the power supply has asserted "power good" to indicate that it is ready to supply stable voltages at sufficient power levels. Reset places less stress on the hardware than power cycling, as the power is not removed. Many computers, especially older models, have user accessible "reset" buttons that assert the reset line to facilitate a system reboot in a way that cannot be trapped (i.e. prevented) by the operating system. Out-of-band management also frequently provides the possibility to reset the remote system in this way.

Reset (Tina Arena album)

Reset is the tenth studio album released by Australian singer and songwriter Tina Arena on 18 October 2013. The first single, "You Set Fire to My Life" was released on 26 September 2013. Despite not being released as a single, "Only Lonely" charted in the top 50 in late November due to being used in an advertisement for the Australian soap opera Home and Away. "Reset All" was released as the second official single on 18 December. Reset is Arena's sixth top 10 album in Australia. Reset was released in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2014.

Singles

"You Set Fire to My Life" was released at the first single in September 2013 and peaked at 38. "Reset All" was released as the second single and "Love You Less" was announced as the third single in March 2014, but did not eventuate. "Still Running" was released as the third single in August 2014. The video clip was filmed in Rome and released in July.

In addition to the official singles, "Only Lonely" charted at 32 and gained national interest after it was used in a commercial for the 2013 finale of Channel 7's Home and Away as well as at the 2014 Logie Awards.

Reset (Norwegian band)

Reset is a Norwegian musical group.

Reset started as a one man studio project in 1994 by Stig Antonsen, but was never finished. He decided to start again in 1996 with two friends, Trude Barstad and Christian Onshus. They released a single in the summer of 1996 called "U R My Dream" on the Sony Music label Dance Pool. The group split up after only six months together.

In late 1998 Stig was working with Camilla Henningsen on "Oh What A Day", a song that later would be included on the "Play" album. They decided to start Reset again and called in Thomas Borgvang, a local Radio DJ. The first song that was recorded with all 3 members was "Makin' Me Feel". The band performed their first gig in December 1998 at the NRJ Christmas-party at the Oslo Spektrum together with artists such as Snap!, Sash!, Solid Base & Jocelyn Brown.

2 months later, they signed a 4 album deal with the German record-company Edel Records. The single "Blue" was released in June 1999 and is until today the biggest selling Norwegian dance single ever, selling 18,000 copies. Their next single "Get Me" also became a huge success and reached a top 5 position on the Norwegian charts. In November 1999 Reset released their debut album Play and a few months later they received a Gold record for the album in Norway. They also released "Makin' Me Feel" as a single in 2000.

Symmetry (Gabriella Cilmi song)

"Symmetry" is a song by Australian recording artist Gabriella Cilmi. It was released as the second single from her third studio album The Sting on 11 November 2013 on digital download format.

A music video was released on 17 September, it was directed by Tim Fox, the director of o Saris' 'The Addict' and Zico Chain's 'New Romantic'. The video features Cilmi and a long-haired actor in a space other-worldly atmosphere that reminds us of her Ten lead single On a Mission.

Composition

"Symmetry" was co-written by Tom Fuller, with whom she already worked with Sweeter In History. It is an enercig ballad that reminds us of her Defender, with a romantic side, that has been inspired by Cilmi's former relationship.

The website "Planet Music Reviews" described Symmetry as a "pop (song) with elements of rock. I found this to be infectious and it showed that she went back to her original style which featured on début album Lessons To Be Learned. Symmetry was a promising track and it is a definite for album #3 in my books."

Symmetry (horse)

Symmetry (foaled 1795) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for winning the classic St Leger Stakes in 1798. Originally trained in Yorkshire won the St Leger at Donacaster on his final appearance as a three-year-old and when on to defeat the Epsom Derby winner Sir Harry in a match race at York in the following year. As a five-year-old he was transferred to race at Newmarket where he lost a rematch with Sir Harry, but won his three remaining races, including matches against Sorcerer and Diamond, two of the leading racehorss of the time. After his retirement from racing, Symmetry was sold and exported to stand as a breeding stallion in Russia.

Background

Symmetry was a grey horse bred by his owner Sir Thomas Gascoigne, 8th Baronet. His sire Delpini, from whom he inherited his colour, was a successful rachorse who won eight consecutive races at Newmarket in 1786 and 1787, before becoming a leading sire in the north of England. His stock were particularly noted for their stamina. Symmetry's dam Violet, also bred by Gascoigne, was a highly successful broodmare who also produced the Oaks winner Theophania (by Delpini) and Golden Locks, the dam of Soothsayer. Symmetry was the third of fourteen foals produced by Violet between 1793 and 1807.

Nonagon

In geometry, a nonagon /ˈnɒnəɡɒn/ (or enneagon /ˈɛniːəɡɒn/) is a nine-sided polygon or 9-gon.

The name "nonagon" is a prefix hybrid formation, from Latin (nonus, "ninth" + gonon), used equivalently, attested already in the 16th century in French nonogone and in English from the 17th century. The name "enneagon" comes from Greek enneagonon (εννεα, "nine" + γωνον (from γωνία = "corner")), and is arguably more correct, though somewhat less common than "nonagon".

Construction

Although a regular nonagon is not constructible with compass and straightedge (as 9 = 3², which is not a product of distinct Fermat primes), there are very old methods of construction that produce very close approximations. It can be also constructed using neusis, or by allowing the use of an angle trisector.
