Sycamore

Sycamore is a city in Turner County, Georgia, United States. The population was 496 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Sycamore is located at 31°40′15″N 83°38′2″W / 31.67083°N 83.63389°W / 31.67083; -83.63389 (31.670810, -83.633871).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 496 people, 186 households, and 135 families residing in the city. The population density was 497.4 people per square mile (191.5/km²). There were 209 housing units at an average density of 209.6 per square mile (80.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.45% White, 16.73% African American, 1.21% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.81% of the population.

There were 186 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.13.
