Tidal (livecoding)

Tidal is a live coding environment designed for musical improvisation. In particular, it is a domain-specific language embedded in Haskell, focused on the generation and manipulation of audible or visual patterns. It was originally designed for heavily percussive, polyrhythmic grid-based music, but now uses a flexible, functional reactive representation for patterns, using rational time. Tidal may therefore be applied to a wide range of musical styles, although its cyclic approach to time means that it affords use in repetitive styles such as Algorave.

In its native configuration, Tidal triggers samples on disk via a C-language sampler called Dirt . However there also exist integrations for MIDI, and for the SuperCollider sound environment.

Tidal is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple, released in the United States on July 23, 1996, by Work Records and Columbia Records (Sony Music).. according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA in December 1997

Tidal produced six singles: "Shadowboxer", "Slow Like Honey", "Sleep to Dream", "The First Taste", "Criminal" and "Never Is a Promise". "Criminal", the album's most popular single, won a 1998 Grammy Award for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" and was named the single of 1997 in a poll of Rolling Stone readers. The music video for "The First Taste" never aired in the U.S.

The 2005 album I've Got My Own Hell to Raise by Bettye LaVette is titled after a lyric in "Sleep to Dream", and includes a cover of that song.

The album was very well received upon release and continues to be highly regarded. In 2008, Entertainment Weekly named Tidal the 20th Best Album of the last 25 years (1983–2008). In 2010, Rolling Stone placed it among the greatest albums of the 1990s, at number 83. A year later, Slant Magazine placed it at number 74. The album is featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Plot

Anthony is caught between dreams of being a musician and pleasing his father and fiance. Encouraged by his great uncle, Anthony finds inspiration from a mysterious older woman in an other worldly night club, who teaches him to find happiness through swing dancing.

Swing (Savage song)

"Swing" is the lead single from Savage's debut solo album, Moonshine. It was released in January 2005 and went on to reach number one in the New Zealand singles chart. In 2008, it was released as a single in the United States with a re-done version featuring Soulja Boy, as well as an additional version featuring Pitbull. Both remixes are featured on the rapper's second studio album Savage Island, and the Soulja Boy version additionally appeared on Now That's What I Call Music! 29. There are also covers of this song by metalcore bands Drop Dead, Gorgeous and Miss May I.

"Swing" was remixed by Australian producer Joel Fletcher in 2013. The remix, credited as "Joel Fletcher & Savage", has reached number two in Australia - charting much higher than the original version. A music video was filmed on 17 December 2013 and released on 14 January 2014. The track features on the Australian release of Ministry of Sound - The Annual 2014. This version of the song was certified triple platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association.

Swing (EP)

Swing is the third extended play (EP) and fifth overall release by Mandopop boy band Super Junior-M, a sub-group of the South Korean band Super Junior. The EP consists of six songs, which were released for digital download on March 21, 2014 in China and Taiwan by S.M. Entertainment. The group released the album in Korean music sites, such as MelOn, genie, Naver music and more, on March 31, 2014.
