Kim Carnes

Kim Carnes (born July 20, 1945) is a two-time Grammy Award winning American singer-songwriter. Born in Los Angeles, California, Carnes now resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where she continues to write music. She began her career as a songwriter in the 1960s, writing for other artists while performing in local clubs and working as a session background singer with the famed Waters sisters (featured in the documentary, 20 Feet from Stardom). After she signed her first publishing deal with Jimmy Bowen, she released her debut album Rest on Me in 1972.

As a solo artist, Carnes saw some success with her singles "More Love," "Crazy in the Night (Barking at Airplanes)," "Make No Mistake (He's Mine)," with Barbra Streisand, and "I'll Be Here Where the Heart Is." Her most successful single was "Bette Davis Eyes," released in 1981. The song won two Grammy Awards; Song of the Year and Record of the Year, and became the best-selling single of the year in the United States.

Carnes' self-titled debut album primarily contained self-penned songs, including her first charting single "You're a Part of Me", which reached number thirty-five on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1975. In the following year, Carnes released Sailin', which featured "Love Comes from Unexpected Places". The song won the American Song Festival and the award for Best Composition at the Tokyo Song Festival in 1976. Other successes as a songwriter include co-writing the number one duet "The Heart Won't Lie" with Donna Weiss, recorded by Vince Gill and Reba McEntire, and co-writing the songs for Kenny Rogers' concept album Gideon (1980).

Kim Carnes is the second studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1975 (see 1975 in music).

"You're a Part of Me" (solo version) peaked Adult Contemporary #32 (1976) on Billboard charts. It was the very first Kim Carnes hit. Although this album hasn't been released on CD, eight of the album's eleven songs can be found on the European CD "Master Series".

Sweet Love

"Sweet Love" is a song by American R&B singer-songwriter Anita Baker. It was the second single from her critically acclaimed second studio album, Rapture. It was released in August 1986.

Chart performance

The song was Baker's first big hit single, peaking at number two on the Billboard R&B chart, number three on the Billboard adult contemporary chart, and number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1986. The song also peaked at number 13 in the United Kingdom and spent two weeks at number 21 in Canada.

Awards

Baker won two Grammy Awards at the 1987 ceremony: Best R&B Song, earning her (along with Gary Bias and Louis Johnson) a songwriting award. Also, the album containing this song, Rapture, won in the category Best Female R&B Vocal performance.

Performances and cover versions

Baker performed "Sweet Love" on Saturday Night Live on April 11, 1987.

In 1994, jungle artist M-Beat released a cover version with singer, Nazlyn, on vocals.

American R&B group EOL (Elements Of Life) covered the song in 1998.

Sweet Love (Chris Brown song)

"Sweet Love" is a song by American recording artist Chris Brown, taken from his fifth studio album, Fortune (2012). It was written by Brown, Cory Marks, Greg Curtis, Jamal "Polow da Don" Jones, Jason "JP" Perry and Tommy Doyle Jr., while the production was handled by Polow da Don and Perry. The song was sent to urban contemporary radio in the United States on April 10, 2012, as the second single from the album. "Sweet Love" is a slow jam R&B ballad which incorporates elements of electronic music. The lyrics of the song revolve around Brown asking his lover to take off her clothes so that they can have sex.

"Sweet Love" garnered positive reviews from music critics, who complimented the song's sexual lyrics. In the United States, it peaked at number 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The accompanying music video was co-directed by Godfrey Taberez and Brown, and filmed at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California. It displays intimate scenes of Brown and his lover partaking in sexual activity, women levitating out of their beds, and Brown dancing. Critics were complimentary of the video's sexual themes and presentation.
