Sweaty Nipples

Sweaty Nipples were an American rock band from Portland, Oregon. The band released two albums before splitting up. Their music has been characterized as "funk metal".

History

The band formed in Portland in 1987. Band members included Davey Nipples (guitar, bass), Bradley Mowen (drums), Brian Lehfeldt (vocals, drums), Eric French (bass), Dave Merrick (vocals, samples), and Ryan Moore (guitar). They released the album Straight Outta Portland in 1989. The band recorded a second album in 1991 but record label NastyMix filing for bankruptcy meant that it was not released. Building up a reputation from their live shows, the band won Portland Music Awards in 1991 for Best Alternative/Metal Act and in 1992 for Best Live Show. They played on the Lollapalooza tour in 1992. With new members Scott Heard (vocals, guitar) and Hans Wagner (drums), the band signed with Megaforce in 1993, and released a self-titled EP followed by the album Bug Harvest, which sold more than 30,000 copies.

With Megaforce's demise, the band signed with Elemental and released the album Thrill Crazed Space Kids Blasting the Flesh Off Humans in 1996.

Nipple

In its most general form, a nipple is a structure from which a fluid emanates. More specifically, it is the projection on the breasts or udder of a mammal by which, in females, breast milk is delivered to a mother's young. In this sense, it is often called a teat, especially when referring to non-humans, and the medical term used to refer to it is papilla. A breast or nipple is sometimes called a "pap". The rubber mouthpiece of a baby bottle or pacifier may also be referred to as a "nipple" or a "teat". In humans, nipples of both males and females are also one of the erogenous zones. In many cultures, human female nipples are sexualized and it is considered a taboo or a public indecency to uncover them in public.

Etymology

The word "nipple" most likely originates as a diminutive of neb, an Old English word meaning "beak", "nose", or "face", and which is of Germanic origin. The words "teat" and "tit" share a Germanic ancestor. The second of the two, tit, was inherited directly from Proto-Germanic, while the first entered English via Old French.

Nipples (Peter Brötzmann album)

Nipples is a 1969 album by free jazz saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, originally released on the Calig record label. The title track is performed by a sextet comprising Brötzmann (tenor saxophone), Evan Parker (also on tenor saxophone), Derek Bailey (guitar), Fred Van Hove (piano), Han Bennink (drums), and Buschi Niebergall (bass). The other track featured, "Tell a Green Man", is performed by a quartet made up of Brötzmann, Van Hove, Niebergall, and Bennink.

The album was reissued on CD by Atavistic Records as part of their Unheard Music Series in 2000. The label also released a second CD in 2003 titled More Nipples, featuring three further recordings from the same sessions: an alternate take of "Nipples", performed by the sextet, and two further recordings by the quartet.

The original version of nipples is going to be re-released on vinyl by Cien Fuegos (part of Trost Records) in 2015, also featuring the original version of the album artwork.
