Weezer (1994 album)

Weezer, also known as The Blue Album, is the debut studio album by the American rock band Weezer, released in May 1994 through DGC Records. The album was produced by Cars frontman Ric Ocasek and recorded in Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The Blue Album produced the singles "Undone - The Sweater Song", "Buddy Holly", and "Say It Ain't So", which brought Weezer mainstream success, helped by music videos directed by Spike Jonze. As of August 2009, the album had sold over 3,300,000 copies in the United States. It peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 and is certified triple-platinum in the US and double-platinum in Canada.

Background

Weezer was formed on February 14, 1992, in Los Angeles by Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Matt Sharp, and Jason Cropper. At the time, they would play at clubs and other small venues around L.A.. However, it took a long time for the band to gain popularity. Cuomo explained:

Weezer recorded The Kitchen Tapes as an attempt to create a buzz around L.A. The band eventually attracted attention from major-label A&R reps looking for alternative rock bands while performing on the same bill as the band That Dog. They were then signed to DGC Records on June 26, 1993, by Todd Sullivan, an A&R rep from Geffen Records.

Suzanne (1980 film)

Suzanne is a Canadian drama film, released in 1980. It was directed by Robin Spry, and written by Spry and Ronald Sutherland as an adaptation of Sutherland's 1971 novel Snow Lark.

The film stars Jennifer Dale as Suzanne McDonald, a woman in an unhappy marriage who becomes pregnant after an extramarital affair with a gangster who has just been sent to prison. The cast also includes Gabriel Arcand, Winston Rekert, Ken Pogue, Michelle Rossignol, Michael Ironside, Aubert Pallascio, Pierre Curzi and Yvan Ducharme.

The film garnered six Genie Award nominations at the 2nd Genie Awards, including Best Actor (Rekert), Best Actress (Dale), Best Supporting Actor (Arcand), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design.

Suzanne (2013 film)

Suzanne is a 2013 French drama film directed by Katell Quillévéré. In January 2014 the film received five nominations at the 39th César Awards, with Adèle Haenel winning the award for Best Supporting Actress.

Plot

Following the death of her mother, Suzanne and her younger sister are raised by their father alone. At the age of 17, Suzanne becomes the mother of a son. Her father and her sister support the both of them. Then Suzanne falls in love with a gangster Julien. She abandons her family to follow Julien to Marseille and ends up in prison. Upon her release, she finds her son Charlie living in a foster family. Trying to put her life together Suzanne nevertheless falls into old habits when Julien finds her on a bus and persuade her to leave for Belgium with him. Once again abandoning her family, Suzanne has a second child. Returning home she goes to visit her mother's grave and discovers that her sister, Maria, has died during her absence. Crossing the border back to Belgium, Suzanne, in a fit of grief confesses that she is travelling on a false passport. In prison Suzanne is visited by her father, teenage son and toddler daughter and watches as her son and daughter play together.

Standard (1911 automobile)

The Standard was a German automobile manufactured between 1911 and 1912. The car was produced at Berlin-Charlottenburg using a rotary valve engine built by Henriod, which was unreliable and had not been fully developed; consequently, it was very unpopular.

Standard Superior

Standard Superior was an automobile, produced from 1933 to 1935 by Standard Fahrzeugfabrik of Ludwigsburg, Germany, founded by motorcycle maker Wilhelm Gutbrod and unrelated to the Standard Motor Company of England. These small cars were designed according to the patents by Josef Ganz and featured rear-mounted two-stroke engines.

After World War II, the same company made Gutbrod cars and introduced the model Gutbrod Superior.

History

In the first half of 1932, Wilhelm Gutbrod, the President of the Standard Fahrzeugfabrik, came into contact with German engineer Josef Ganz. Ganz had been working on a small car design since the early 1920s and had so far built two prototypes, one for Ardie in 1930 and one for Adler in 1931, called the Maikäfer (May Beetle). After a demonstration with the Maikäfer by Ganz, Gutbrod was most interested to build a small car according to this design. The Standard Fahrzeugfabrik then purchased a license from Ganz to develop and build a small car according to his design. The prototype of this new model, which was to be called Standard Superior, was finished in 1932. It featured a tubular chassis, a mid-mounted engine, and independent wheel suspension with swing-axles at the rear.

Standard (Italian automobile)

The Standard was an Italian automobile manufactured from 1906 until 1908 by the Fabbrica Automobili Standard of Torino. The company produced a 10/14 hp four-cylinder which was sometimes marketed under the name FAS.
