Susan Smith

Susan Leigh Vaughan Smith (born September 26, 1971) is an American convict who was sentenced to life in prison for filicide. Born in Union, South Carolina, she is a former student of the University of South Carolina. On July 22, 1995, she was convicted of the drowning deaths of her two sons, 3-year-old Michael Daniel Smith and 14-month-old Alexander Tyler Smith.

The case gained worldwide attention shortly after it developed, due to her false claim that a black man carjacked her and kidnapped her two boys. Her defense attorneys, David Bruck and Judy Clarke, presented expert testimony that she suffered from mental health issues that impaired her judgment when she committed the crimes.

According to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Smith will be eligible for parole on November 4, 2024, after serving a minimum of thirty years. She is incarcerated at South Carolina's Leath Correctional Institution, near Greenwood.

The case

On October 25, 1994, Smith reported to police that her vehicle had been carjacked by a black man who drove away with her sons still in the car. For nine days, she made dramatic pleas on national television for the rescue and return of them. However, following an intensive investigation and a nationwide search, on November 3, 1994, she confessed to letting her 1990 Mazda Protegé roll into nearby John D. Long Lake, drowning the children inside. Her motivation was reportedly to be able to have a relationship with a local wealthy man, even though the latter had no intention of forming a family.

Karen Elaine Price (born July 17, 1960) is an American model, stunt woman and television producer. She is sometimes credited as Karen Castoldi. She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month in January 1981. Her centerfold was photographed by Ken Marcus.

After she became a Playmate, Price started acting, but soon switched to performing stunts for over two dozen movies including Leonard Part 6 (1987), Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985), and The Golden Child (1986). After a hiatus, she began a new career as an associate producer of television programs such as Amazing Vacation Homes (2004) and Amazing Babies (2005).

Price made a cameo appearance of sorts in the early Mel Gibson film The Road Warrior - her centerfold is pasted onto a tailfin of Gyro Captain's Benson gyrocopter.

Susan Smith-Walsh (born 14 September 1971 in Waterford city, Ireland, Height 1.64m (5'41/2") Weight 53 kg (116 lbs) is a retired international Irish hurdler and sportsperson. In her senior career she competed in two Olympic Games, two World Championships and one European championship. At the 1997 Athletics World Championships she became the first Irish athlete to ever reach a sprint final at a major event.

Because of her blonde hair and good looks, Smith had been described as the 'Anna Kournikova' of the track.

Juvenile years

She started her career by competing in the Community Games, a competition based on parish communities all over the country. She began running at age 6 and qualified for the Community Games' national finals every year. In 1981 she won her first-ever National medal – in the Community Games national final of the 200m. She had also joined her local athletic club, St Paul's A.C., which competed in competitions organised by the National Federation for young athletes, Bórd Lúth-Cleas Óganach na hÉireann (BLOE,) having her first success with her colleagues on the club's u/11 4x100m relay team. It was to be the first of many.

Susan Wendy Kennedy (also Smith and Kinski), is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Jackie Woodburne. The character and her family were created by storyliners in an attempt to bring the show back to its roots. Susan made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 3 October 1994, along with her eldest son and daughter. The storyliners made Susan a teacher at Erinsborough High to give her immediate links with other characters. Since her introduction, Susan's personality and appearance have been through several changes.

Her storylines have seen her begin a relationship with a Priest, being married, divorced and widowed. Susan has become a stepmother and a grandmother and she has been central to three plots revolving around health issues: Retrograde amnesia, Multiple sclerosis and Surrogacy. She has also been central to a cyber-bullying plot. In October 2009, Susan became the longest-running female character in the show's history, having been in Neighbours for over fifteen years. Woodburne has garnered various award nominations for her portrayal of Susan and the character has been well received by viewers and television critics.
