The series blends magic and primitive technology and is set in the Four Lands, which are identified as Earth long after civilization was destroyed in a chemical and nuclear holocaust called the Great Wars. By the time of the prequel First King of Shannara, the world had reverted to a pre-industrial state and magic had re-emerged to supplement science.

    Setting

The Shannara series is set in a post-apocalyptic world called the Four Lands. This world is a futuristic version of our own, and not a secondary world. The Genesis of Shannara trilogy reveals the Four Lands to be located in the modern Pacific Northwest region of the United States and Canada. Much of the landscape has been changed by a future holocaust called The Great Wars, but some landmarks remain. For example, the Columbia River still exists.

    Surrender (Cash Cash song)

"Surrender" is a song by American electronic trio Cash Cash, featuring uncredited guest vocals from American artist Julia Michaels, and was released on 16 September 2014. It will be included in their yet unnamed upcoming album.

    Background and composition

JP Makhlouf, one of the members of Cash Cash, said that "Working on this song brought out a lot of incredible emotions." While the title may refer to the act of giving act, Jean Paul of Cash Cash has stated that "Surrendering is usually seen as something negative or a sign of defeat, but this song shows a different side of things. Sometimes it’s the fight that kills you. Sometimes you don’t even know what you’re fighting for. Sometimes surrendering can set you free!" The track clocks at 3 minutes 28 seconds and features the vocal by Julia Michaels.

"Surrender" was promoted by the group through a Twitter campaign, #SurrenderToCashCash. The group encouraged fans to change their Twitter profile pictures to white flags to mirror the single's cover art. Fans who tweeted the hashtag may be tweeted, followed, or even have their Twitter profile "taken over" by the group.

    Surrender (military)

Surrender in military terms is the relinquishment of control over territory, combatants, fortifications, ships, or armament to another power. A surrender may be accomplished peacefully, without fighting; or it may be the result of defeat in battle. A sovereign state may surrender following defeat in a war, usually by signing a peace treaty or capitulation agreement. A battlefield surrender, either by individuals or when ordered by officers, will normally result in those surrendering becoming prisoners of war.

    History

A white flag or handkerchief is often taken or intended as a signal of a desire to surrender, although in international law, (also can be a treaty) it simply represents a desire for a parley that may or may not result in a formal surrender. Normally, a surrender will involve the handing over of weapons; in European warfare of earlier centuries, the commanding officer of a surrendering force would specifically offer up his sword to the victorious commander. Individual combatants can indicate a surrender by discarding weapons and raising their hands empty and open above their heads; a surrendering tank commander should point the tank's turret away from opposing combatants. Flags and ensigns are hauled down or furled, and ships' colors are struck or the raising of a white flag to the masts signals a surrender.
