Surf (Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment album)

Surf is the debut studio album by American band The Social Experiment; it was released exclusively on iTunes as a free download on May 28, 2015. The album highlights trumpeter, Nico Segal (a.k.a. Donnie Trumpet), and was created by Segal along with his band of collaborators called The Social Experiment — a self-described group of bohemian musicians, consisting of Donnie Trumpet, Chance The Rapper, Peter Cottontale, Greg Landfair Jr. and Nate Fox. The album was highly anticipated because of Chance's heavy involvement with the group, contributing vocals and some of the arrangements to the album. Surf was downloaded 618,000 times via iTunes in its first week, with over 10 million individual track downloads.

Release

Surf was surprise-released as an iTunes Exclusive free download shortly before midnight on May 28, 2015, after numerous delays. The album was originally to be released by the end of the year in 2014, but the release date was pushed back several times. Preceding the album were singles "Sunday Candy" and "Nothing Came To Me", neither of which showed any of the various features on the album – since Chance is technically part of The Social Experiment, he is not regarded as a feature. "Sunday Candy", an ode to Chance's grandmother, featuring vocals by Chance The Rapper and various uncredited singers including Jamila Woods, was followed by "Nothing Came To Me", an instrumental track accompanied by a "silent film" starring Cara Delevingne. The Austin Vesely, Ian Eastwood and Chance The Rapper-directed music video for Sunday Candy was released on YouTube on April 12, 2015.

Surf station

Surf is a passenger rail station in the small community of Surf, California, west of the city of Lompoc. It is served by Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. Four Pacific Surfliner trains serve the station daily.

Of the 73 California stations served by Amtrak, Lompoc-Surf was the 64th-busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 18 passengers daily.

Adolescents (song)

"Adolescents" is the lead single from Incubus' seventh album, If Not Now, When?. It was posted on the band's website on April 4, 2011 (a physical release was released 15 days later, April 19). This is their first single in two years following the release of the Prince and The Revolution cover "Let's Go Crazy" (from the 2009 compilation Monuments and Melodies). It has since peaked at #3 on both the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, and on the Billboard Rock Songs chart.

Writing and composition

Regarding the decision to release the song as a single, guitarist Michael Einziger noted, "I think it’s the most easily digestible song for our fans. I was surprised when we turned all this music in, "Adolescents" was actually the last song we wrote for this album. We actually had a few other songs that we left off of the album and we didn’t even know if we were going to put "Adolescents" on the album. It was kinda like one of the floater songs. I mean we loved all the songs but we wanted to make an eleven-song record; we didn’t want to have a thirteen-song record. We wanted it to be less is more. Everybody that we played the music for seemed to just automatically think that song would be a good segue into this album for our fans."

Adolescents (band)

The Adolescents are an American punk rock band formed in 1980 in Fullerton, California. From its earliest days, the band has functioned as a kind of SoCal punk supergroup, being formed originally from early members of Agent Orange and Social Distortion.

Since its inception The Adolescents has undergone a series of breakups, reunions, and lineup changes. Their first breakup came in 1981, the same year their self-titled debut LP was released. The band reunited in 1986 and released the LPs Brats in Battalions and Balboa Fun*Zone before splitting up again in 1989. After a one-off reunion performance in 1994, the band reunited yet again in 2001 for a 20th anniversary tour and have continued performing ever since. The Adolescents began releasing new material again with the albums OC Confidential (2005) and The Fastest Kid Alive (2011).

The band has influenced many notable punk rock, alternative and hard rock/metal groups, including Bad Religion, NOFX, Face to Face, Good Riddance,The Offspring,Pennywise,Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fu Manchu, Mudhoney,Blink-182 and The Vandals.

Yogi

A yogi is a practitioner of yoga. The term "yogi" is used broadly to refer to sannyasi or practitioners of meditation in a number of Indian religions.

Yogi, or Jogi, since the 12th-century CE, while meaning those dedicated to Yoga practice, has also referred to members of the Nath Siddha tradition of Hinduism. Alternatively, a tantrika is also called as yogini in Tantra traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. In Hindu mythology, god Shiva and goddess Parvati are depicted as emblematic yogi-yogini pair.

Etymology

In Classical Sanskrit, the word yogi (Sanskrit: masc yogī, योगी; fem yoginī) is derived from yogin, which refers to a practitioner of yoga. Yogi is technically male, and yoginī is the term used for female practitioners. The two terms are still used with those meanings today, but the word yogi is also used generically to refer to both male and female practitioners of yoga and related meditative practices belonging to any religion or spiritual method.

The term Yogini is also used for divine goddesses and enlightened mothers, all revered as aspects of the Divine Mother Devi.

Yogi (2014 film)

Yogi (யோகி) (English: Master of Oneself) is a 2014 Independent Singaporean Hyperlink Tamil Comedic Action Thriller Short-Film written, shot and directed by Kevin William. Stanley Vincent composed the film's soundtrack and score with an additional score composed by Dinesh Menon. The film was jointly edited by Kevin William, Stanley Vincent & Dinesh Raj. Filmoholic Pictures and Aaryan Productions & Entertainment bankrolled the venture and purchased the theatrical rights for the film while Treasure Max Productions held the audio rights.

Yogi is a Hyperlink Cinema film, with the story revolving around the lives of 4 friends & an assassin, both coming from different walks of life and illustrates how their fates gets intertwined by a similar motive. The film had its own theatrical premiere in Golden Village cinemas (Yishun), on 5–6 December 2014, being the first ever local independent short film to hit the screens. The film opened to mostly positive reviews from critics and audience island-wide.
