Yoon Mi-rae

Natasha Shanta Reid (born May 31, 1981), known by her Korean name Yoon Mi-rae, is an American-born South Korean rapper and singer. She is part of the Korean hip hop crew The Movement and current member of MFBTY.

She is married to Tiger JK, and has one son with him. She was selected the 12th best new female emcees dominating mics worldwide by MTV IGGY in 2011.

Biography

Early life and education

Reid was born in Fort Hood, Texas to a South Korean mother and a black American father. She often faced discrimination because of her mixed heritage. Her father, Thomas J. Reid, was a DJ when she was young, so she naturally became acquainted with music. Because her father was also in the military, Reid lived in multiple locations, including Fort Lewis, Washington, Washington, D.C. and Germany.

Career

In 1995, she accompanied a friend to a World Records audition for a group which would later become Uptown. She did not audition herself, but a World staff member heard Tasha singing the lyrics to songs outside of the audition room and casted her immediately. Uptown debuted in South Korea in early 1997, when Reid was just 16. Tasha was one of the first mixed race artists in Korean music, causing much criticism in a homogeneous society. Tasha later revealed her struggles in her 2007 single, "Black Happiness", which spoke of how industry executives told her to deny her African American heritage.

Park Jin-young

Park Jin-young (born December 13, 1971), also known as J.Y. Park or JYP , is a South Korean music mogul, musician and record producer. Beginning as a singer, he became a record producer and, ultimately, the CEO and founder of JYP Entertainment, a major artist management/record label of Korean pop music.

Biography

Park was born in Seoul. He graduated from Baemyung High School and he earned his bachelor's degree in geology from Yonsei University.

Music career

In 1992, Park debuted as a group called 'Park Jin-Young and the New Generation,' but it was not successful. In 1994, he debuted as a solo singer with the album Blue City featured the song "Don't Leave Me", and it was successful.

Park has released many albums. He followed Blue City with his second album Tantara in 1995. His third album Summer Jingle Bell came out in 1997 and featured the hit song "She Was Pretty". His fourth album Even After 10 Years (1998) featured the song "Honey", and his seventh album Back To Stage (2007) featured the song "Kiss". In 2013 he released an album called "White in Snow". While maintaining his status as a successful artist, he has also composed and produced over 31 charting singles and 25 albums for various groups in South Korea including Rain and Wonder Girls.

Superstar K

Superstar K (Korean: 슈퍼스타 K) is a South Korean television talent show series which is held yearly. First held in 2009, Superstar K has increasingly gained more attention, considered the biggest audition program in South Korea. Superstar K's concept involves that of finding the next "superstar," with the winner each week determined with a combination of the scores given by judges and votes from viewers.

Traditionally, the award winner of each season is given the chance to sing at the Mnet Asian Music Awards as well as other prizes.

Superstar K1

Superstar K1 is a South Korean television show on Mnet. Superstar K1 is season one of the Superstar competition series in which singers audition to get on the show. Each week, the singers perform a song and are eliminated based on the three judges' perception and audience voting.

This program began on July 24, 2009 and ended October 9, 2009 with the announcement of Seo In-guk as the winner and Jo Moon-geun as the runner-up.

Superstar K4

Superstar K4 (Hangul: 슈퍼스타 K4) is the fourth season of the South Korean television talent show series Superstar K, which premiered on 17 August 2012 on M.net and airs every Friday night at 11PM KST. Lee Seung-Chul and Yoon Mi-Rae returned as judges, and were joined by singer/songwriter PSY who replaced Yoon Jong-Shin who had been a judge in the last two seasons. 2,083,447 applicants were recorded for this season, surpassing the record set by the previous season.

Selection process

As with the previous seasons, applicants were able to apply via the internet, phone or in person. However, with this season, the options of applying via KakaoTalk and karaoke also became available.

Lee Seung-chul

Lee Seung-Cheol (Hangul: 이승철; also spelled Lee Seung-Chul; born December 5, 1966 in Seoul) is a South Korean singer. He was the main vocalist of Boohwal, a South Korean rock band, until 1989 when he left the band and released his first solo album, Don't Say Good-Bye (안녕이라고 말하지마). In 2005 his 7th album, The Livelong Day, won him Korean Music Awards for best male singer. He has been working as a judge in reality television series Superstar K. On August 27, 2014, Lee performed "Arirang", "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "The Day" at the opening ceremony of the 65th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference.

Lee is also known for his song Girls Generation, which was covered and used as the group name in 2007 by a nine-member girl group Girls' Generation.

His Japanese debut was in 2006, under A&M Japan. His debut Japanese album is entitled Sound of Double. In October 2010, Lee represented Korea and performed at the 7th Asia Song Festival, organised by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange, at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.

Lee Hyori

Lee Hyori (Hangul: 이효리; Hanja: 李孝利; born May 10, 1979), is a South Korean singer, actress, record producer, activist, and television presenter. Dubbed as the "Nation's Fairy" during her Family Outing days, she debuted as a member of the successful K-pop girl group Fin.K.L, but has since become a solo artist. In 2003, she released her debut solo album Stylish which won several "Artist of the Year" awards. In 2006, Lee was the highest-paid female singer in her native country when she signed a contract with Mnet Media.

Biography

1998-2002: Beginning in Fin.K.L

Lee Hyori began her career as part of South Korean pop girl group Fin.K.L. As the eldest member, she was the leader of the group. Lee was discovered while taking sticker pictures with her friends and was actually the last to join Fin.K.L, just before their debut in January 1998. Fin.K.L debuted officially on May 22, 1998 with their first single "Blue Rain", which was received quite well. The second release from their debut album, "To My Boyfriend", became the first of their multiple number one hits. Fin.K.L became one of the most popular and successful South Korean pop groups of all-time, rivaling fellow popular girl group S.E.S.
