Sunshine State of Mind

Sunshine State of Mind is the third studio album by American rock band We the Kings.

Background

While writing new material, We the Kings used piano and acoustic guitars. Travis Clark explained that he "wanted all the songs to be able to be stripped down with acoustic and vocals, and [the band] built it off that."

Release

Sunshine State of Mind was released through S-Curve Records on July 5, 2011 on iTunes and July 12 everywhere else. In February and March 2012 the band went on a co-headlining tour with Mayday Parade, with support from The Downtown Fiction and Anarbor.

Reception

The album received mixed to negative reviews from music journalists. It debuted at No. 45 on the US Billboard 200 and at No. 9 on the Rock Albums chart. This is the last album to feature bass player Drew Thomsen.

Florida i/ˈflɒrɪdə/ (Spanish for "flowery land") is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Alabama and Georgia, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Straits of Florida and the country of Cuba. Florida is the 22nd most extensive, the 3rd most populous, and the 8th most densely populated of the United States. Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. The Miami metropolitan area is the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tallahassee is the state capital.

A peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida, it has the longest coastline in the contiguous United States, approximately 1,350 miles (2,170 km), and is the only state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the state is at or near sea level and is characterized by sedimentary soil. The climate varies from subtropical in the north to tropical in the south. The American alligator, American crocodile, Florida panther, and manatee can be found in the Everglades National Park.

    Sunshine State (film)

Sunshine State is a 2002 American comedydrama film written and directed by John Sayles. The picture stars an ensemble cast that features Angela Bassett, Edie Falco, Jane Alexander, Alan King, Timothy Hutton, Mary Steenburgen, Bill Cobbs, and others. The movie was filmed on Amelia Island, Florida, which includes settings in historic Fernandina Beach. Amelia Island is located 30 or so miles north of Jacksonville.

Set in a small town in northern Florida, the main two interwining stories focus on two women at crucial points in their lives, and also comments on such issues as race relations and commercial property development.

    Plot

As the primarily white town of Delrona Beach, Florida, is preparing for its annual festival, one of the parade floats is set afire. A young black boy named Terrell is found guilty of the deed, and he is sentenced to community service with a local community theater. An orphan, Terrell is in the care of an elderly relative, Eunice Stokes, who lives in the neighboring, primarily black community of Lincoln Beach.

    Sunshine State of Mind

    by: We The Kings

    Like we've broken
    Crashing the night
    Push ahead, push ahead
    Past the highest ledge
    Tonight is ours
    With single step
    Push ahead, push ahead
    Such a beautiful sight
    After every hill we climbed
    It's never been so clear
And at the top, we scream
I really like the view from here
    Racing for a new beginning
    Chasing roads that are neverending
Here's a our chance to our new history
Best times yet arund the corner
    Catching dreams without a border
We are here, and we are finally free
We're dancing like we've broke in
    Like we've broken
    Crashing the night
    Push ahead, push ahead
    Past the highest ledge
    Tonight is ours
    With single step
    Push ahead, push ahead
    Such a beautiful sight
    After every hill we climbed
    It's never been so clear
And at the top, we scream
I really like the view from here
