Kickstart (Amiga)

Kickstart is the bootstrap firmware of the Amiga computers developed by Commodore.

Most Amiga models were shipped with the Kickstart firmware stored on ROM chips. Its purpose is to initialize the Amiga hardware and core components of AmigaOS and then attempt to boot from a bootable volume, such as a floppy disk.

Versions

Commodore's AmigaOS was formed of both the Kickstart firmware and a software component provided on disk (with the software portion often termed as Workbench). For most AmigaOS updates the Kickstart version number was matched to the Workbench version number. Confusingly, Commodore also used internal revision numbers for Kickstart chips. For example, there were several Kickstart revisions designated as version 2.0.

Version summary

The first Amiga model, the A1000, required that Kickstart 1.x be loaded from floppy disk into a 256 kB section of RAM called the writable control store (WCS). Some A1000 software titles (notably Dragon's Lair) provided an alternative code-base in order to use the extra 256 kB for data. Later Amiga models had Kickstart embedded in a ROM chip, thus improving boot times. Many Amiga 1000 computer were modified to take these chips.

Kick Start (TV series)

Kick Start was a popular series on BBC television inspired by motorcycle trials riding, a sport akin to horse show jumping, but on motorbikes. The programme was first aired in August 1979 and ran until 1988.

The programme was devised by Nick Brittan and produced by BBC Pebble Mill producer Derek Smith, who also created Top Gear.

The idea for Kick Start originated when the 1978 Lombard RAC Rally organiser, Nick Brittan, realised that top trials motorcyclists, competing over a hazardous track and obstacles, might make exciting television

Run against the clock, the show illustrated some of the skills needed in normal trials riding. In the Kick Start format, the riders went over obstacles such as piles of logs, oil drums, rockeries, water troughs, up a wall, up steep banking or a cliff-face and over a car (VW Beetle). Penalties, in the form of time added to their round time, would be given for putting a foot on the ground while tackling an obstacle or touching or knocking over specified parts of an obstacle (such as the "bunny hop").

Kickstart (Linux)

The Red Hat Kickstart installation method is used primarily (but not exclusively) by the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system to automatically perform unattended operating system installation and configuration. Red Hat publishes Cobbler as a tool to automate the Kickstart configuration process.

Usage

Kickstart is normally used at sites with many such Linux systems, to allow easy installation and consistent configuration of new computer systems.

Kickstart configuration files can be built three ways:

Anaconda will produce an anaconda-ks.cfg configuration file at the end of any manual installation. This file can be used to automatically reproduce the same installation or edited (manually or with system-config-kickstart).

Sunset (novel)

Sunset is a children's fantasy novel, the sixth and final book in Erin Hunter's Warriors: The New Prophecy series. The book begins with the group of cats known as ThunderClan rebuilding its camp with the help of its old friends Stormfur and Brook following a badger attack in Twilight. As the book progresses, BrambleClaw and Squirrelflight overcome a previous conflict and fall in love again, but Brambleclaw continues to visit the spirit of his evil father Tigerstar in his dreams. Brambleclaw manages to convince ThunderClan leader Firestar to choose a new deputy to replace the long missing Graystripe and is surprised when he is chosen. Brambleclaw's half-brother Hawkfrost attempts to kill Firestar in order that Brambleclaw might become leader of ThunderClan, but Brambleclaw saves Firestar and kills Hawkfrost, fulfilling the prophecy "Before there is peace, blood will spill blood and the lake will run red".

The book was first released on December 26, 2006, in the US as a hardcover. It then was released as a paperback, e-book, and audiobook. The book was the third in the series to be released in audiobook format. The audiobook was read by Nanette Savard, whose performance was praised by AudioFile. Sunset received mixed to positive reviews from reviewers.

Sunset (True Blood)

Sunset is the eleventh episode of the HBO TV series True Blood's fifth season, while the 59th episode overall. The episode is followed by Save Yourself and is preceded by Gone, Gone, Gone. The episode has better reviews and viewers than all of the episodes of its season, except for the season premiere, Turn, Turn, Turn, which so far has the most positive reviews and viewers.

Plot

Sookie and Jason

Sookie hides at the faeries' club, while Jason is warned by Jessica that Russell is coming for Sookie. Jason is glamored into revealing the hideout of the faeries by Russell and Steve, resulting in the faerie elder going to confront the vampires, but she is killed, leaving the club vulnerable.

Bill and Eric

Bill is "chosen" by Lilith to drink all of her blood, however, she then says this to Salome and others in the Authority to turn them against each other. Nora visits Eric and they have sex, after she realizes Eric is right, and decides to help him in saving the Authority and Bill. Meanwhile, Bill, who is preparing to drink Lilith's blood, kills a fellow vampire for the blood. Afterward, the Authority are visited by an Army General, who states he has footage of Steve Newlin and Russell Edgington, while then stating he needs to speak to Roman. Bill reveals they killed Roman, Eric kills the man, as Eric and Nora prepare to glamour people into forgetting the man while Bill decides to destroy all copies of the tape.

Marques Houston

Marques Houston (born August 4, 1981), is an American R&B singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer and actor. A member of the R&B singing group Immature/IMx from 1992 until 2001, Marques went on to become a solo artist in 2003. As an actor, he is best known for his role as Roger Evans in the television comedy Sister, Sister.

Early life

Houston was born in Los Angeles to Michael and Caroline Houston, and has three siblings. He is African American, Mexican, and Dominican. His first cousin is J-Boog. Houston began acting at an early age on popular television shows such as Sister, Sister. He also starred in 1994 Movie House Party 3 with his bandmates Don (Half-pint) Santos & Jerome (Romeo) Jones.

Music career

Music beginnings

Houston became a founding member of the R&B group Immature, known from 1999 as IMx. The group included Jerome "Romeo" Jones and Don "Half Pint" Santos (later replaced by Kelton "LDB" Kessee), with Chris Stokes acting as their manager. At this period Houston went by the nickname "Batman". In 1999 the group underwent a name change but continued on to release two albums under the name IMx: Introducing IMx (1999) and IMx (2001). The group also branched out into film (such as House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute) and television (such as A Different World) before disbanding in 2002.
