Sufism

Sufism or Tasawwuf (Arabic: تصوف), is defined as the inner mystical dimension of Islam. Practitioners of Sufism (Tasawwuf), referred to as Sufis (ṣūfī) (/ˈsfi/; صُوفِيّ), often belong to different ṭuruq or "orders"—congregations formed around a grand master referred to as a Mawla who maintains a direct chain of teachers back to the Prophet Muhammad. These orders meet for spiritual sessions (majalis) in meeting places known as zawiyahs, khanqahs, or tekke. Sufis strive for ihsan (perfection of worship) as detailed in a hadith: "Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him; if you can't see Him, surely He sees you."Jalaluddin Rumi stated: "The Sufi is hanging on to Muhammad, like Abu Bakr." Sufis regard Prophet Muhammad as the Al-Insān al-Kāmil, which is a concept that describes Muhammad as the primary perfect man who exemplifies the morality of God. Sufis regard Prophet Muhammad as their leader and prime spiritual guide. Sufis also consider themselves to be the true proponents of this pure, original form of Islam.

  • Naren Ray

Naren Ray (1940 – 24 July 2003) better known as Sufi, was a Bengali cartoonist with a career spanning nearly five decades, during which time he published political as well as children's cartoons in prominent Bengali magazines and newspapers. His role as a political cartoonist earned him more ire than dividends, while his work as a strip cartoonist was unique. His cartoons were followed by generations of Bengali middle-class people without ever knowing his true identity. He was a regular contributor to Shankar's weekly, published by political cartoonist K. Shankar Pillai. Even though his works appeared exclusively in Bengali-language print media, his work had uniquely close ties to the leftist movement, rendering his drawings and ideas peerless.

Sufi selangkah tirai kasihmu ku buka
Engkau serahkan cinta hingga dirimu tiada
Kasih sufi kau rela pilih derita di dunia
Biar rebah di hina kau tak berubah
    Kau menguasai selautan
    Yang tersembunyi di genggaman
    Nafi dan isbat kau sandingkan
    Sebagai tali pegangan
    Sufi kau hilang di pandangan
    Ada di dalam kenikmatan
Engkau dan dia pasti tidak akan terpisah
    Andai tertutup tirai sufi
    Yang terang tidak nampak terang
    Inilah siksa menyakitkan sepanjang jalan
    Inginku tempuh titianmu
    Dari kekasih ke kekasih
    Pengabdianku bersamamu kasih
