The UUM-44 SUBROC (SUBmarine ROCket) was a type of submarine-launched rocket deployed by the United States Navy as an anti-submarine weapon. It carried a 5 kiloton nuclear warhead.
Development began in 1958, with the technical evaluation being completed in 1963. That year, the US Navy received the first rounds and soon reached Initial Operation Capability (IOC) aboard the attack submarine Permit. When SUBROC reached IOC The US Navy's admiral in charge of weapons procurement stated that SUBROC was " .. a more difficult technical problem than Polaris." SUBROC was never used in combat, and all were decommissioned following the end of the Cold War in 1989. Because the nuclear warhead was an integral part of the weapon, SUBROC could not be exported to other navies, and there is no evidence that any were supplied to other NATO allies under the well-established arrangements for supplying other dual-key nuclear weapons. Towards the end of the 1970s, a planned successor, the UUM-125 Sea Lance, was frequently delayed due to funding problems and eventually canceled.
DJ Subroc (August 3, 1973 – April 23, 1993) was an English-born American hip hop artist and a member of KMD and Constipated Monkey.
Dumile's first group, KMD was formed by him and his brother Zev Love X (MF Doom), along with Jade 1, who would later be known as Rodan, but who was eventually replaced by Onyx the Birthstone Kid. Their first release was the LP Mr. Hood, on Elektra Records, in 1991. Although production is either credited to KMD or to Stimulated Dummies, he produced everything under the name KMD, due to the fact that he was underage at the release of the album. After further production for artists like 3rd Bass, MF Grimm, Megalon (aka Tommy Gunn, Kurious Jorge, & Zev Love X, who would later be known as MF Doom).
DJ Subroc died April 23, 1993 after being hit by a car while attempting to cross the Long Island Expressway. His death brought production of the KMD album Black Bastards to a halt and marked the end of KMD, although Black Bastards was later released. A few of what people believe to be MF DOOM productions are actually those of the late DJ Subroc, instrumentals like "Peach Extract", "Hands Of Doom", "Rainblood" (Pt.1 & 2), "Hoe Cakes", and "Scientific Civilization". The track "Leave Ya' with This" from the album A Constipated Monkey, by Kurious, is dedicated to DJ Subroc.
An EPROM (rarely EROM), or erasable programmable read-only memory, is a type of memory chip that retains its data when its power supply is switched off. Computer memory that can retrieve stored data after a power supply has been turned off and back on is called non-volatile. It is an array of floating-gate transistors individually programmed by an electronic device that supplies higher voltages than those normally used in digital circuits. Once programmed, an EPROM can be erased by exposing it to strong ultraviolet light source (such as from a mercury-vapor light). EPROMs are easily recognizable by the transparent fused quartz window in the top of the package, through which the silicon chip is visible, and which permits exposure to ultraviolet light during erasing.
Development of the EPROM memory cell started with investigation of faulty integrated circuits where the gate connections of transistors had broken. Stored charge on these isolated gates changed their properties. The EPROM was invented by Dov Frohman of Intel in 1971, who was awarded US patent 3660819 in 1972.
