Stuart Laing

Stuart Laing (born (1969-11-16)16 November 1969 in London) is an English actor, best known for his role as Rob Minter in the BBC soap opera EastEnders.

Laing trained at the Drama Centre, London and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Laing's first acting role was a guest part in Minder in 1994. During 1995 and 1996 he appeared in Strike Force, Devil's Advocate, 3 Steps to Heaven and Blood and Peaches. He also made a guest appearance in Heartbeat. He then appeared in his first movie, Gaston's War, playing Harry as well as appearing in Cradle of Fear, in one of the main roles. He appeared in Burn It, playing Mike, and later played the role of Jack Hewit, in the BBC miniseries Cambridge Spies. He starred in Butterfly Man in 2002. In 2004–2005 he played Simon Parker in the BBC medical drama Holby City. In September 2005 he played Jeff Clarke in the second live episode of The Bill. From 23 October to 29 November 2008, Stuart played Nigel in the Leicester Square Theatre's production of Matthew Todd's Blowing Whistles, alongside Paul Keating and newcomer Daniel Finn. In 2012, he appeared as Alex Redmond in the BBC soap opera Doctors.

Stuart Laing (diplomat)

Stuart Laing (born 22 July 1948) was a British diplomat, and is now Master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1970 having studied Classics. He entered the diplomatic service in 1970. During his service in the Diplomatic Service, Laing held the following offices:

He was appointed Master of his old college Corpus Christi on the 1 October 2008 succeeding Oliver Rackham. He researches and writes on Arab and East African history and in 2012 he published, jointly with Robert Alston, Unshook till the end of time, a book on the history of Britain’s relationship with Oman. The degree of M.Phil. was conferred to him in 2013 for a thesis on the political history of Oman. Laing is a keen amateur musician; he plays keyboard instruments and the oboe. His other recreations are desert travel and hill-walking. Laing is married to Sibella (daughter of Sir Maurice Henry Dorman, herself a graduate in History of Newnham College, Cambridge) and has a son and two daughters.

Laing is a German band currently consisting of Nicola Rost, Larissa Pesch, Johanna Marshall, and Marisa Akeny.

Career

Laing was founded in 2007 by lead vocalist, songwriter, and producer Nicola Rost, vocalists Johanna Marshall and Susanna Berivan, and dancer Marisa Akeny. The group's name comes from the surname of Rost's adoptive mother. Their breakthrough came in 2012 when they represented Saxony in the 2012 Bundesvision Song Contest with the song "Morgens immer müde". They placed second and the song went on to reach the Top 10 and Top 50 in the German and Austrian charts, respectively. They competed in Unser song für Österreich with the songs "Zeig deine Muskeln" and "Wechselt die Beleuchtung". The group qualified to the Top 4, but did not make it to the Top 2 and were eliminated.

The founding members of Laing consist of lead vocalist Nicola Rost, vocalists Johanna Marshall and Susanna Berivan, and dancer Marisa Akeny. In 2012, Berivan left the group in favour of a solo career and was replaced by Atina Tabé. Tabé later left the group as well in 2014 and was replaced by Larissa Pesch.

Taro

Taro (/ˈtɑːroʊ, ˈtæ-/, US /ˈtæroʊ/) is a common name for several plants in the Araceae family which are used as vegetables for their corms (thickened underground stems), leaves, and leaf-stems (petioles).

Colocasia esculenta is thought to be native to Southern India and Southeast Asia, but is widely naturalised. It is a perennial, tropical plant primarily grown as a root vegetable for its edible starchy corm, and as a leaf vegetable. It is a food staple in African, Oceanic and South Indian cultures and is believed to have been one of the earliest cultivated plants.Colocasia is thought to have originated in the Indomalaya ecozone, perhaps in East India, Nepal and Bangladesh, and spread by cultivation eastward into Southeast Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Islands; westward to Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean Basin; and then southward and westward from there into East Africa and West Africa, whence to the Caribbean and Americas. It is known by many local names and often referred to as "elephant ears" when grown as an ornamental plant.
