Cato, a Tragedy

Cato, a Tragedy is a play written by Joseph Addison in 1712, and first performed on 14 April 1713. Based on the events of the last days of Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis (95–46 B.C.), a Stoic whose deeds, rhetoric and resistance to the tyranny of Julius Caesar made him an icon of republicanism, virtue, and liberty. Addison's play deals with, among other things, such themes as individual liberty versus government tyranny, Republicanism versus Monarchism, logic versus emotion, and Cato's personal struggle to hold to his beliefs in the face of death. It has a prologue written by Alexander Pope, and an epilogue by Samuel Garth.

The play was a success throughout England and her possessions in the New World, as well as Ireland. It continued to grow in popularity, especially in the American colonies, for several generations. Indeed, it was almost certainly a literary inspiration for the American Revolution, being well known to many of the Founding Fathers. In fact, George Washington had it performed for the Continental Army while they were encamped at Valley Forge.

List of The Hunger Games characters

The following is a list of characters in The Hunger Games trilogy, a series of young adult science fiction novels by Suzanne Collins that were later adapted into a series of four feature films.

Main characters

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is the protagonist and narrator of the series. She is 16 years old at the beginning of the first book and is portrayed as quiet, independent, and fierce. She has long dark hair (which she wears in a single side braid), olive skin, and grey eyes, all characteristics of "The Seam" part of District 12. Katniss likes the color green because of her familiarity with forests. Katniss lives with her mother and younger sister, Primrose (nicknamed "Prim"), after the death of her father, who was killed in a mining accident and left her mother deeply depressed, forcing Katniss to become the breadwinner of the family. When Prim is reaped at the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. The series then chronicles her efforts to survive the game, using such skills as hunting with bow and arrow, and how her skills significantly impact her and everyone around her. Eventually, her choice at the end of the game to spare both District 12 tributes, as co-winners, change Panem forever, because the districts see her as the symbol of rebellion against the tyrannical Capitol and its leader, President Snow.

When a baserunner steps off a base before a pitch is thrown in order to reduce the distance to the next base he takes a lead.

The player who is first in the batting order for a given team in any given inning is said to lead off the inning.

leadoff hitter

The first batter listed on a team's line-up card (in the 1-hole or the "leadoff spot" on the line-up card). When the announcers read the starting line-up they might say, "Leading off, and playing short-stop, is Sammy Speedyrunner. Batting second, playing second base, Carlos Contacthitter. Batting third, in the pitcher's spot, is designated hitter Burt "Biggie" Brokenleg. Batting clean-up, playing left field, Thor Thunderbat. . . ."

The first batter in an inning (who could be in any hole on a team's line-up card). If that batter gets a single, or a home run, or a walk, the announcer would say he has a "leadoff single," a "leadoff home run," or a "leadoff walk."

Stranded (2013 film)

Stranded is a 2013 science fiction-horror film directed and co-written by Roger Christian starring Christian Slater, Brendan Fehr, Amy Matysio, and Michael Therriault. Astronauts stranded on a lunar mining base attempt to survive an attack by a shapeshifting alien life form. Filming was at the Canada Saskatchewan Production Studios by Regina, SK based Minds Eye Entertainment. The film was one of the last financed by the province's canceled film employment tax credit and was produced entirely in Saskatchewan.

Plot

Four isolated astronauts in the lunar mining base Ark suffer a meteor storm. While inspecting the damage caused by the meteors, astronaut Ava Cameron discovers spores contained in one of the fragments and brings them back to the base for investigation. The medical officer discovers that these spores can grow rapidly, and in the process Ava is contaminated with them. Shortly afterward, Ava shows evident signs of a rapidly progressing pregnancy and, a few hours later, she goes into labor. The life form escapes the lab, and none of the others believe Ava's stories; they instead attribute her pregnancy to a cyst. The alien stalks crew member Johns, eventually taking his shape and killing him. Using notes posthumously left by Johns, Ava and Col. Brauchman attempt to kill the alien before it can kill them. Eventually, Ava and Brauchman prepare to abandon the base in an escape pod, but it is hijacked by the alien. Ava and Brauchman, having expended most of the base's remaining power to ready the escape pod, are resigned to their fates until a rescue ship arrives from Earth. Brauchman sends a message to Earth from the rescue ship, warning them to kill whatever they discover in the escape pod, but it's revealed that the alien has escaped.
