Stranded (album)

Stranded is the third album by the English rock band Roxy Music, released in late 1973. It reached number one on the UK album charts. The cover shows Bryan Ferry's then girlfriend and 1973 Playmate of the Year, Marilyn Cole. It was the first Roxy Music album on which Ferry was not the sole songwriter as multi-instrumentalist Andy Mackay and guitarist Phil Manzanera also contributed to the album. Though it was also the first without Brian Eno, who had left the group after For Your Pleasure, he nonetheless later rated it as Roxy Music's finest record. Paul Gambaccini in a Rolling Stone review wrote, "Roxy Music can no longer be ignored by Americans. They may not achieve the commercial success they have in Britain, where Stranded reached Number One, but their artistic performance must be recognized. Stranded is an eloquent statement that there are still frontiers which American pop has not explored." It only reach #186 in the Top Pop Albums charts in the US.

The track "Street Life" was released as a single and reached number 9 on the UK charts.

! is an album by The Dismemberment Plan. It was released on October 2, 1995, on DeSoto Records. The band's original drummer, Steve Cummings, played on this album but left shortly after its release.

Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.

An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

Plot

Kevin Buchannon is a high school outcast, he is picked on by jocks and ostracized by the other geeks. One day, while out in the woods with his dog Cody, he finds a space ship crash landed and a mysterious stranger inside. The stranger calls himself Captain Turner, and he instructs Kevin on how to bandage him up and heal the wounds he has suffered in his landing. Turner explains to Kevin that he has been flying a top-secret experimental aircraft. He momentarily loses consciousness, revealing his true form—he is really a shape-shifting alien named Tyr'Nar. Tyr'Nar is an interplanetary bounty hunter who has lost a prisoner he was transporting back to his world. To protect the boy, Tyr'Nar gives him a patch that allows him to fight back against the prisoner if he ever runs near him. The two grow close through the support and understanding the alien gives the boy.

Stranded (2002 film)

Stranded is a 2002 television adventure drama film directed by Charles Beeson, based on Johann David Wyss's novel The Swiss Family Robinson. It starred Liam Cunningham, Brana Bajic, Roger Allam and Jesse Spencer.

Plot

David Robinson is being shipped off to a penal colony. His wife and kids are allowed to accompany him. A storm strikes the ship and the family (except for one son, Jacob) are trapped below deck. Jacob is raised by pirates, and the family gets out of the boat and on to land, salvaging as much as they can from the boat, including dogs, chickens, and muskets. They learn to survive and build a shelter on land. Then, Jacob's pirates kidnap Emily, the daughter of a sea-captain. She escapes onto the island and becomes a love interest with Fritz and Ernst. Jacob is reunited with his family during a battle with the pirates over Emily, and she is returned to her father. In the end, the family goes their own ways, some staying on the island, some going home.

Stranded (Heart song)

"Stranded" is a song recorded by American rock band Heart. It was released as the third single from the band's tenth studio album Brigade. It is a mid-tempo power ballad that features Heart's guitarist Nancy Wilson picking up lead vocals. Nancy also performed lead vocals on two previous Heart hits: "There's The Girl" and "These Dreams".

The track climbed to #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, but was not a big success in the UK Singles Chart, where it stalled at #60. It went to #1 in Canada, according to The Record.

The 12" and CD single formats featured the non-LP track "I'll Never Stop Loving You", whilst exclusively in the UK there were two limited editions of the 12" single: the first came in a gatefold sleeve, whilst the second was issued as a 12" picture disc.
