Steve Irwin

Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin (22 February 1962 – 4 September 2006), nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist. Irwin achieved worldwide fame from the television series The Crocodile Hunter, an internationally broadcast wildlife documentary series which he co-hosted with his wife Terri. Together, the couple also owned and operated Australia Zoo, founded by Irwin's parents in Beerwah, about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of the Queensland state capital city of Brisbane.

Irwin died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary film titled Ocean's Deadliest. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ship MY Steve Irwin was named in his honour.

Early life

Irwin was born on his mother's birthday to Lyn and Bob Irwin in Essendon, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. He is of Irish descent on his father's side. He moved with his parents as a child to Queensland in 1970, where he attended Landsborough State School and Caloundra State High School. Irwin described his father as a wildlife expert interested in herpetology, while his mother Lyn was a wildlife rehabilitator. After moving to Queensland, Bob and Lyn Irwin started the small Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park, where Steve grew up around crocodiles and other reptiles.

Steve Irwin (curler)

Steve Irwin (born July 18, 1982 in Carberry, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler. He skips a team on the World Curling Tour.

Irwin, representing the Brandon Curling Club, is a three-time provincial curling club champion, having won in 2010, 2012 and 2013. As such, he represented Manitoba at the 2010 The Dominion Curling Club Championship, the 2012 The Dominion Curling Club Championship and the 2013 The Dominion Curling Club Championship. In 2010, he led his rink to a semi-final loss, after posting a 6-0 record. In 2012, his team was undefeated until losing to Alberta in the final. In 2013 he found less success, winning just one game in the championship.

On the World Curling Tour, Irwin played third for the Terry McNamee rink until forming his own team in 2013. The 2014 Safeway Championship was Irwin's first provincial championship as a skip after leaving the McNamee rink. At the provincial championships, he led his team all the way to the playoffs, where he lost in the 3 vs. 4 game.

MY Steve Irwin

The MY Steve Irwin is the 59-meter (194 ft) flagship of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and used in their direct action campaigns against whaling and other activities the group opposes. The vessel was built in 1975 and formerly served as a Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency conservation enforcement patrol boat, the FPV Westra, for 28 years.

Sea Shepherd had originally christened the vessel the MV Robert Hunter after Canadian Robert Hunter, co-founder of Greenpeace, but it was renamed in honor of The Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin on December 5, 2007. Irwin had considered joining the vessel on a voyage to Antarctica shortly before his death, and the renaming was endorsed by his widow Terri.

The ship and its crew, and their efforts for conservation, are the subject of the Animal Planet show Whale Wars.

Registration

In January 2007, the ship was struck from the British Ship Register after a Japanese request. The ship has been registered in the Netherlands as of October 8, 2007.

Steve Irwin (rugby league)

Steven "Steve" Irwin (born 19 June 1983 in Queensland, Australia) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer.

Career

While attending St. Lukes Anglican School, Irwin played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 2000.

Irwin, affectionately nicknamed "Croc" after the TV personality the Crocodile Hunter of the same name, made a remarkable rise to first grade football in just 5 years. He spent much of his youth playing soccer before picking up Rugby League at the age of 14.

He moved to the Canberra Raiders.

Controversy

On 18 May 2007, Irwin was with his teammate Todd Carney when Carney decided to drive in Irwin's ute, despite Carney having been disqualified from driving at the time. Police began to pursue the vehicle in a high-speed chase through the back streets of the Canberra suburb of Bruce. After turning into a dead-end street, Carney stopped the car and fled the scene on foot, leaving Irwin in the passenger seat. Irwin told police Carney was the driver. Controversially, the Raiders club sacked Irwin over the incident (who was not charged with any offenses), but retained Carney.

Steven Irwin (born 29 September 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder.

Career

Irwin played youth football in his native England with Liverpool. He trialled with Scottish club Aberdeen in January 2011, with a view to a loan deal. He was released by Liverpool in June 2011.

Later that summer he signed for Dutch club Telstar, making his senior professional debut for them during the 2011–12 season.

On 17 November 2011, Telstar coach Jan Poortvliet confirmed Irwin had left the club, citing homesickness as a factor in his departure.

In September 2012 he signed for Finnish Premier League club FF Jaro.
