Steven Hill

Steven Hill (born February 24, 1922) is a retired American film and television actor. His two better-known roles are District Attorney Adam Schiff on the NBC TV drama series Law & Order, whom he portrayed for ten seasons (1990–2000), and Dan Briggs, the original team leader of the Impossible Missions Force on the CBS television series Mission: Impossible, whom he portrayed in the initial season of the show (1966–67).

Early life

Hill was born Solomon Krakovsky in Seattle, Washington to Russian immigrants. Hill served four years in the United States Naval Reserve. In the 1950s, Hill moved to New York, New York to pursue an acting career.

Career

Hill made his first Broadway stage appearance in Ben Hecht's A Flag Is Born in 1946, which also featured a young Marlon Brando. Hill says his big break came when he landed a small part in the hit Broadway show Mister Roberts. "The director, Joshua Logan, thought I had some ability, and he let me create one of the scenes," said Hill. "So, I improvised dialog and it went in the show. That was my first endorsement. It gave me tremendous encouragement to stay in the business." Hill said this was a thrilling time in his life when, fresh out of the Navy, he played the hapless sailor Stefanowski. "You could almost smell it from the very first reading that took place; this is going to be an overwhelming hit," said Hill. "We all felt it and experienced it and were convinced of it, and we were riding the crest of a wave from the very first day of rehearsals."

Steven John Hill (born June 6, 1958 in New London, Connecticut) is an American writer, columnist and political reformer. He has authored several books on American politics and political reform, as well as a book on the European political economy (Europe's Promise: Why the European Way is the Best Hope in an Insecure Age). He led the campaign to pass instant runoff voting in San Francisco in 2002, which was the first victory for electoral system reform in the United States since the 1950s, and was a leader in other campaigns for instant runoff voting and public financing of campaigns. He is a cofounder of FairVote and former director of the political reform program at the New America Foundation.

Life

Hill was born in New London, Connecticut and lived there until the age of four when his family relocated up the Thames River to Uncasville, a borough of Montville. He lived there until he went to college, attending Yale University, the University of Connecticut and Western Washington University/Fairhaven College. In the early 1990s, he cofounded Citizens for Proportional Representation (CPR) along with Rob Richie and Matthew Cossolotto. CPR soon changed its name to the Center for Voting and Democracy, and Hill and Richie became its first two employees in the mid-1990s. The Center underwent another name change in the early 2000s, and now is known as FairVote.

Steven Alfred Hill is an American reality television personality, model, guest speaker, author, and occasional actor. Hill is best known as a cast member on the twelfth season of the MTV reality television show The Real World.

Early life

Steven Hill was born in San Marcos, Texas, but was raised predominantly in Austin. At the age of 16, Hill left home and has since lived on his own. Before appearing on The Real World, Hill worked as a shirtless bartender at a gay bar, although he is straight. He was briefly married to a woman he once worked with at a Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

Career

Hill's marriage failed by the time he was selected by MTV to appear in the 12th season of the Real World reality series, The Real World: Las Vegas. In the first episode, he met fellow castmates Brynn and Trishelle Cannatella for a three way makeout session in a hot tub. The relationship would end after a dramatic pregnancy scare.

After The Real World ended, Hill appeared in several subsequent MTV shows, including various Real World/Road Rules Challenges and was the host of Say What? Karaoke for a season. He also took part in a reunion special with his Real World: Las Vegas castmates.
