Steve Taylor
Roland Stephen "Steve" Taylor (born December 9, 1957), is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, music executive, film maker, and actor. A large figure in what has come to be known as Christian alternative rock, he enjoyed a successful solo career during the 1980s, and also served in the short-lived group Chagall Guevara. In contrast to many Christian musical artists, his songs have often taken aim at other Christians with the use of satirical, sardonic lyrics. In 1997, he founded the record label Squint Entertainment, which fueled the careers of artists such as Sixpence None the Richer, Chevelle, and Burlap to Cashmere. Despite this success, Taylor was ousted from the label by its parent, Word Entertainment, in 2001. He as produced and written for numerous musical acts, one of the most consistent being Newsboys. As a film-maker, he co-wrote, directed, and produced the feature films Down Under the Big Top, The Second Chance, and Blue Like Jazz. After a decade and a half of hiatus, Taylor returned to performing music in 2010 as the front-man for Steve Taylor & The Perfect Foil, a supergroup he founded with Peter Furler, Jimmy Abegg, and John Mark Painter.
Steve Taylor (Canadian football)
Steve Taylor (born January 7, 1967) was an American football quarterback who played in the Canadian Football League. Taylor had signed a four-year contract with the Edmonton Eskimos just one month after finishing his senior season with the University of Nebraska. The dual threat QB was selected in the 12th round by the NFL's Indianapolis Colts during April 1989, but Taylor was already committed to playing in the CFL.
Taylor played for four different CFL teams including the Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the Ottawa Rough Riders which began in the summer of 1989. He spent his entire career of eight seasons as a backup playing behind notable CFL starters such as Tracy Ham and Doug Flutie. His career passing statistics included 4,947 yards passing with 35 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He completed 366-of-652 pass attempts during his CFL career.
Collegiate career
Taylor's college football career was quite different. The 6-foot, 205-pound option quarterback was the perfect fit for Head Coach Dr. Tom Osborne's vaunted option offense. Taylor was 31-6 with a conference championship (Big Eight Champions - 1988) as the starter for Nebraska from 1986 to 1988. His freshman season in 1985 included Taylor coming off the bench to help Nebraska nearly defeat Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl—a game the Wolverines won, 27-23.
Steve Taylor (musician)
Steve Taylor is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He was the keyboardist for Oakland band Rogue Wave, in addition to performing solo locally and internationally. He was born in the College Greens ghetto of Sacramento, California, where he attended Saint Ignatius Catholic School followed by a period at the Sacramento Waldorf School, attending at the same time as Daniel Gorman of !!!. Dropping out in 10th grade following a period of misdiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), he later enrolled at Sacramento High School.
He then moved to Seattle and attended the University of Washington. On the side he began playing with various local musicians, including Jason McGerr, future drummer of Death Cab for Cutie. In 2001, he recorded his debut self titled EP with Martin Feveyear. Still searching for his niche, he moved to New York, attending The New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, where his fellow students included Georgia Ann Muldrow. While in NYC, he joined the Afrobeat band Akoya, playing tenor guitar. While getting settled in New York, tragedy struck when the one story building he was living in in Williamsburg, Brooklyn collapsed while he was sleeping. While Steve was unhurt, it destroyed many of his belongings, including rare musical equipment. Never regaining his footing, he left New York, settling in Nevada City for a time, and eventually San Francisco, CA.
Steve Taylor (footballer)
Steven Jeffrey "Steve" Taylor (born 18 October 1955) is an English former footballer. A forward, he scored 157 goals in 441 league games in a 15-year career in the Football League.
He began his career at Bolton Wanderers, turning professional in October 1973. He was loaned out to Port Vale in October 1975, before signing with Oldham Athletic in October 1977 for £38,000. He transferred to Luton Town in January 1979 for a £75,000 fee, before moving on to Mansfield Town for the same fee a few months later. He signed with Burnley in 1980, and helped the "Clarets" to the Third Division title in 1981–82. He switched to Wigan Athletic in 1983, before spending a brief spell with Stockport County the following year. He was signed by Rochdale in November 1984, and had a prolific two-year spell at the club, before he was bought by Preston North End for £20,000. He quickly returned to Burnley, and featured in the 1988 Football League Trophy final. He returned to Rochdale for the 1988–89 campaign, before he retired from professional football. He later had an unsuccessful time as manager of Northern Premier League club Mossley in 1993.
Steve Taylor (politician)
Steven Craig Taylor (born February 9, 1956) is a former minor league baseball player and Delaware politician.
A native of Delaware, Taylor played baseball for the University of Delaware. He then played for the Columbus Clippers until he had an arm injury that removed him from baseball.
He then moved back to Delaware. He was then involved in banking. He was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in 1984. He was also a longtime supporter of bringing a minor league baseball team to Delaware and worked tirelessly to accomplish this goal.
Taylor was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Taylor was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 2003.
