Stellar (magazine)

Stellar Magazine (stylised as STELLAR MAGAZINE) is a glossy Irish lifestyle and fashion magazine targeted at female readers in the age group of eighteen to thirty-four. It is part of the VIP publishing franchise of Michael O'Doherty. Stellar was launched on 15 October 2008 as the second of O'Doherty's solo business ventures, following the publication of the teenage-oriented advice magazine Kiss which was launched on 31 October 2002. O'Doherty had previously engaged in a number of co-ordinated business ventures in Ireland with his former business partner John Ryan; Stellar succeeded the co-owned establishments of Magill in 1997 and VIP in 1999 and preceded later titles such as the unsuccessful New York Dog magazine which was based in New York City and aimed at the city's animal lovers. Stellar's chief rivals are the Irish Tatler and Image.

Launch

The magazine was launched on the night of 16 October 2008 at Krystle nightclub in Dublin despite the downturn in the Irish economy and the complications of slower advertising spending. It was proclaimed by its owner as an alternative to Image and the Irish Tatler. The editor is Susan Vasquez who suggested the magazine would be "kind of like an older version of Kiss". Vasquez is the former editor of the teenage magazine, having helped launch the magazine.

Stellar (payment network)

Stellar is an open source protocol for value exchange. It was founded in early 2014 by Jed Mccaleb and Joyce Kim, its board members and advisory board members include Keith Rabois, Patrick Collison, Matt Mullenweg, Greg Stein, Joi Ito, Sam Altman, Naval Ravikant and others. The Stellar protocol is supported by a nonprofit, the Stellar Development Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to expand financial access and literacy worldwide. At launch, Stellar was based on the Ripple protocol. After systemic problems with the existing consensus algorithm were discovered, Stellar created an updated version of the protocol with a new consensus algorithm, based on entirely new code. The code and whitepaper for this new algorithm were released in April 2015, and the upgraded network went live in November 2015.

Design

Stellar is an open source protocol for value exchange. Servers run a software implementation of the protocol, and use the internet to connect to and communicate with other Stellar servers, forming a global value exchange network. Each server stores a record of all “accounts” on the network. These records are stored in a database called the “ledger”. Servers propose changes to the ledger by proposing “transactions”, which move accounts from one state to another by spending the account’s balance or changing a property of the account. All of the servers come to agreement on which set of transactions to apply to the current ledger through a process called “consensus”. The consensus process happens at a regular interval, typically every 2 to 4 seconds. This keeps each server’s copy of the ledger in sync and identical.

Stellar 7

Stellar 7 is an action-style tank simulation video game based on the arcade game Battlezone in which the player assumes the role of a futuristic tank pilot. The game was originally created by Damon Slye for the Apple II and Commodore 64 in 1983. It was followed by two sequels, Arcticfox (1986) and Nova 9: Return of Gir Draxon (1991), and was remade in the early 1990s for the 16-bit computers.

Gameplay

The player's tank, the Raven, has a front-facing cannon with an unlimited supply of bullets. The cannon can fire up to two shots at a time. The tank also has a cloaking device that, when triggered, would render it invisible to enemies for about a minute. Gauges on the left side of the screen indicate the amount of shields and power remaining. The tank starts with enough power to cloak twice, and power slowly trickles away as the time passes. The game ends when either shields or power runs out.

Each of the seven levels represents a different solar system, hence the title. The player's objective is to get to the last level and defeat the enemy boss, Gir Draxon. Each level is depicted as a nearly featureless plane dotted by geometric obstacles, some indestructible and most not, and various enemies. After the player destroys a certain number of enemies, a warplink will appear that provides a gateway to the next level.

Magazine (EP)

"Magazine" is the third extended play by Korean American singer Ailee. It was released on September 25, 2014, by YMC Entertainment and Neowiz Internet. Magazine saw Ailee take greater creative control, co-writing four of the album's five songs, including the album's title track; Ailee also collaborated with long-time producer Kim Do Hoon and Korean rap twosome, Dynamic Duo. The song "Don't Touch Me" was used to promote the EP.

Background and release

On September 15, 2014, it was revealed that Ailee will make her comeback on September 25 with her third EP Magazine. A teaser of the singer dressed as a clown with braided pigtails was released on the same day. The singer's agency also revealed that "Magazine" was an album that would present the singer in a matured light. On September 21, Ailee released the music video teaser for the EP's title track "Don't Touch Me". Two days later on September 23, the EP's album cover was released. On September 25, 2014, Ailee released "Magazine", digitally, as well as the music video for "Don't Touch Me". A comeback showcase was organised for the release of the album at Ilchi Art Hall in Cheongdamdong, Gangnam. In preparation for the album, the singer revealed that she lost 10 kilograms in one month for the album. She stated further that her company did not force her to lose the weight and that they had pushed an originally-scheduled comeback for early 2015 to September 2014. During an interview with After School Club, Ailee revealed Magazine was the hardest she had ever worked on an album; she stated further that she conceptualised Magazine as a whole.

Magazine (firearms)

A magazine is an ammunition storage and feeding device within or attached to a repeating firearm. Magazines can be removable (detachable) or integral to the firearm. The magazine functions by moving the cartridges stored in the magazine into a position where they may be loaded into the chamber by the action of the firearm. The detachable magazine is often referred to as a clip, although this is technically inaccurate.

Magazines come in many shapes and sizes, from those of bolt-action express rifles that hold only a few rounds to drum magazines for self-loading rifles that can hold as many as one hundred rounds. Various jurisdictions ban what they define as "high-capacity magazines".

Nomenclature

With the increased use of semi-automatic and automatic firearms, the detachable box magazine became increasingly common. Soon after the adoption of the M1911 pistol, the term "magazine" was settled on by the military and firearms experts, though the term "clip" is often used in its place (though only for detachable magazines, never fixed). The defining difference between clips and magazines is the presence of a feed mechanism in a magazine, typically a spring-loaded follower, which a clip lacks. Use of the term "clip" to refer to detachable magazines is a point of strong disagreement.

Magazine (TV channel)

Magazine is an Argentine cable television channel owned and operated by Grupo Clarín from Buenos Aires. It can be accessed throughout the country via subscription television.

Programming

Magazine produces several programmes, mostly outdoor and gossip shows. It also carries inexpensive syndicated programming, mainly old cartoons, telenovelas soap, series and movies.
