Mía (Armando Manzanero song)

"Mía" ("Mine") is a song by Mexican songwriter Armando Manzanero included in the album A Mi Amor Con Mi Amor (1967). It was first released as a double-side single along with the track "Felicidad" in 1969.

On March 20, 2001 a new version of the song was recorded as a duet with Spanish singer Miguel Bosé and was included on Manzanero's album Duetos. In 2006, Bosé also included this track on his album Papito. Popular Mexican singers like José José and Luis Miguel have performed "Mía" live on several occasions.

Mia was also performed by Los Trios Los Panchos in LP called "El Trio Los Panchos y Armando Manzanero". It included 11 songs composed by Armando Manzanero. "Contigo Aprendi, Perdoname, Cuando Estoy Contigo, Llevatela, Quiero Para Ti, Esta Tarde Vi Llover, No, Adoro, Mia, La Casa and Voy A Pagar La Luz."

Master of Arts (Scotland)

The degree of Master of Arts in Scotland typically refers to a four-year undergraduate Honours degree in the arts, humanities or social sciences awarded by one of the ancient universities of Scotland – the University of St Andrews, the University of Glasgow, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Edinburgh - plus the University of Dundee (as a result of its history as a constituent college of the University of St Andrews) and Heriot-Watt University. The first two years of the Scottish Master of Arts consist of ordinary Bachelor level courses, however, after these, students who are accepted to pursue the Honours route will complete more advanced subjects and write a dissertation in their fourth year. Students who instead choose to do a "general" degree will complete their third year at a lower level of specialisation, and receive a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or an MA without Honours. For the postgraduate degree referred to in other places as "Master of Arts", Scottish universities usually award the degree of Master of Letters (MLitt). Generally, non-ancient universities in Scotland (e.g. University of Strathclyde, The Robert Gordon University, University of the Highlands and Islands, etc.), award arts degrees as Bachelor of Arts.

Stays (nautical)

Stays are ropes, wires, or rods on sailing vessels that run fore-and-aft along the centerline from the masts to the hull, deck, bowsprit, or to other masts which serve to stabilize the masts. On a ship with a single mast, stays that run aft are called backstays and stays that run forward are called forestays. Along with shrouds, they form the primary stabilization for the standing rigging.

To "miss stays" is an unsuccessful attempt to tack.

Types of stays

"A stay is part of the standing rigging (as opposed to the running rigging) and is used to support the weight of a mast. It is a large strong rope extending from the upper end of each mast and running down towards the deck of the vessel in a midships fore and aft direction. The shrouds serve a similar function but extend on each side of the mast and provide support in the athwartships direction. The object of both is to prevent the masts from falling down but the stays also prevent springing, when the ship is pitching deep. Thus stays are fore and aft. Those led aft towards the vessel's stern are back-stays while those that lead forward towards the bow are fore-stays. For example, one fore-stay reaches from the foremast-head towards the bowsprit end. The main-stay extends to the ship's stem. The mizzen-stay stretches to a collar on the main-mast, immediately above the quarter-deck. The fore-topmast stay goes to the end of the bowsprit, a little beyond the fore-stay, on which the fore-topmast staysail runs on hanks. The main-topmast stay attaches to the hounds of the foremast, or comes on deck. The mizzen-topmast stay goes to the hounds of the main-mast. The top-gallant, royal, or any other masts, have each a stay, named after their respective masts. Spring-stay is a kind of substitute nearly parallel to the principal stay, and intended to help the principal stay to support its mast. On a steamer, an iron bar between the two knees secures the paddle-beams. (See funnel stays).

"Stay" is the second single by alternative rock band SafetySuit, off of their debut album Life Left To Go.

It has peaked at #44 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs, #92 on the Pop 100 chart, and #17 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart.

Music video

A music video was released on April 23, 2009, directed by Zack Merck. The video starts off with Doug Brown in a room with a bloody mouth. It then shows Doug with a woman driving a car on a desert road. It switches to this story and the band playing outside a motel throughout the video. Later on in the video, they are in a room at the motel. When the woman leaves the room Doug notices a large amount of money in her luggage bag. He is visibly upset when she enters the room. She is happy as she tosses him a stack of hundreds. He then shows her his police badge, which makes her shocked and upset. As she tries to leave, Doug stops her, handing her rope. She is distraught as she proceeds to tie him to a chair. She then hits Doug with a sculpture of an eagle. He is shown bleeding as he was at the beginning of the video. She then kisses Doug and leaves. After a short time, police show up to the scene and untie him. They look at him and he shakes his head no. The video ends as the police are leaving and Doug gets in a car.
