Stand (R.E.M. song)

"Stand" is a song by the American alternative rock band R.E.M., released as the second single from the album Green in 1989. The song peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming R.E.M.'s second top 10 hit in the United States. The song reached number 48 on the UK Singles Charts and number 16 in Canada. It was placed on R.E.M.'s Warner Bros. Records "best of" album In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003 in 2003.

The song is an example of "truck driver's gear change", as the last two rounds of the chorus are each one whole step higher than the one previous.

"Stand" was used as the theme song for the 1990–92 Fox sitcom Get a Life, starring Chris Elliott.

Meaning

Singer Michael Stipe has said of the song's origin that he and the other band members were discussing The Banana Splits, The Archies, The Monkees, and similar 1960s pop groups. "They threw these super bubblegummy songs at me, and I said, 'I'll raise you and see you one.' And I wrote the most inane lyrics that I could possibly write. Now, it was a very intentional thing to do that. I really like most of those songs, in fact." Guitarist Peter Buck described "Stand" as "without a doubt, [...] the stupidest song we've ever written. That's not necessarily a bad thing though", comparing the song to "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen in terms of 'stupid' lyrical content.

Alive (Ed Kowalczyk album)

Alive is the debut solo album by former Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk.

History

Kowalczyk entered the studio in early 2010 to record material that he began writing in 2008. He wrote songs for Alive with an acoustic guitar, as he had when he wrote for Live.

The lyrics on Alive feature much religious and spiritual imagery. Kowalczyk's acknowledgement of his faith is much more explicit on this album than it was on his work with Live. The album entered Billboard's Christian albums chart at number six.

The album entered the charts in the Netherlands, debuting at number four on the Dutch albums chart. It has also charted in the United States, Belgium, and Australia.

Kiss (Chara EP)

Kiss (キス, Kisu) is the second EP released by Chara, which was released on September 24, 2008 (two months after her 12th original album, Honey). It was her first EP marketed as a mini-album as opposed to a single. It debuted at #30 on the Japanese Oricon album charts, and charted in the top 300 for six weeks.

The EP comprises three covers and two versions of one original song. Kieru (きえる, Disappear) was used as the theme song for the film version of the novel Snakes and Earrings (蛇にピアス, Hebi ni Piasu). The song Kiss is a different version of Kieru, featuring the same arrangement but different lyrics. The lyrics of both songs were written in collaboration with Snakes and Earrings author Hitomi Kanehara, with Kanehara primarily writing Kieru and Chara primarily writing Kiss.

The cover tracks are Tomorrow, a cover of the song from the 1977 musical Annie, Time After Time, a cover of the hit 1984 single by Cyndi Lauper and Ya Ya (Ano Toki o Wasurenai) (あの時代を忘れない, I Won't Forget Those Times), a cover of Japanese rock band Southern All Stars' 1982 single. Tomorrow was used in Astellas Pharma commercials. Time After Time, a duet with Super Butter Dogs vocalist Hanaregumi, had already been released on the 2008 compilation album We Love Cyndi – Tribute to Cyndi Lauper released two months prior.

Kiss (Versailles album)

Kiss (2003) is an darkwave/electronic album by Dianna St. Hilaire, better known as Versailles.

In 2003, Versailles released her first full-length album Live Your Life. Later that year, she created an all-electronic single called "Kiss", breaking away from the previous heavier guitar-based sound. The single was written, produced, mixed and mastered by St. Hilaire. This was released in late 2003 on a limited number of CD-R's. The album is a rare find and is available on her website.

Kiss (Bad Boys Blue album)

Kiss is the ninth studio album of German band Bad Boys Blue. It was released on September 27, 1993 by Coconut Records. One single was also released. John McInerney performed "Kiss You All Over, Baby" which before had been sung by Trevor Taylor. The song "Save Your Love" from the previous album was performed here as "Aguarda Tu Amorin" in Spanish. The song "Kisses And Tears" is taken from the second album.

This record was the last with Trevor Bannister. In 1993, Bad Boys Blue toured around Africa with singer Owen Standing who never was an official band member.
