Love Amongst Ruin (album)

Love Amongst Ruin is the self-titled debut studio album by Love Amongst Ruin. It was released on September 13, 2010.

Background

Writing and recording

After departingPlacebo in October 2007, Steve Hewitt enlisted Lamb bassist Jon Thorne and his brother Nick Hewitt to begin writing and demoing new music at his home studio. Hewitt explained that he decided to write with Jon Thorne because he "wanted to play rock drums against somebody playing upright bass. And that’s what we did and the first thing we ever wrote was "Running"".Julian Cope collaborator Donald Ross Skinner was brought in to oversee and co-produce the recording sessions and the collective relocated to Moles Studio in Bath for three recording sessions with producer Paul Corkett over the summer of 2008. The sessions yielded ten songs, on which Steve performed drums and lead vocals. Mixing began in September and continued for six months before the album was mastered by Brian Gardner in April 2009.

"Bring Me Down (You Don't)" was to be included on the album, but legal trouble with publishers of the band Can resulted in the track being replaced with "Come On Say It". An acoustic version of the song was later released for free via SoundCloud in November 2011. "Come On Say It" featured then-band members Steve Hove, Laurie Ross and Keith York and was mixed ten weeks before the album's release. Other songs which were recorded, but didn't make the cut for the album, were cover versions of "Got To Give It Up" (Thin Lizzy) and "Rise" (Public Image Ltd), the latter being released for free via SoundCloud in July 2012.

Alone (1931 film)

Alone (Russian: Одна, meaning "Alone"), also known in English by the transliterated Russian title Odna, is a Soviet film released in 1931. It was written and directed by Leonid Trauberg and Grigori Kozintsev. It was originally planned as a silent film, but it was eventually released with a soundtrack comprising sound effects, some dialogue (recorded after the filming) and a full orchestral score by Dmitri Shostakovich. The film, about a young teacher sent to work in Siberia, is in a realist mode and addresses three political topics then current: education, technology, and the elimination of the kulaks.

Plot

The film tells the story of a newly graduated Leningrad teacher, Yelena Kuzmina (played by Yelena Alexandrovna Kuzmina). She goes furniture shopping with her fiance, Petya, and in a fantasy sequence she imagines teaching a class of neat, obedient city schoolchildren. Instead, she is assigned to work in the Altai mountains of Siberia. Reluctant to leave, she appeals to remain in the city. Although her request is granted (by a faceless Nadezhda Krupskaya, seen only from behind), she is eventually spurred by the government's condemnation of 'cowards' such as her to accept the post.

  • Stand (Jewel song)

"Stand" is a song by American pop singer–songwriter Jewel from her fourth studio album, 0304 (2003). Written and produced by Jewel and Lester Mendez, and released as the album's second single in October 2003 in the United States and later on internationally, the single failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached number sixteen on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, and also became Jewel's third consecutive chart-topper on the Hot Dance Club Play.

    Background and writing

"Stand" was written and produced by Kilcher and Lester Mendez.

    Critical reception

Todd Burns from Stylus Magazine wrote that "It is a strong first song and while the lyrics are vaguely suspect, they can be ignored in favor of the driving beat."

    Commercial release

The single edit saw no alteration from its original version. However, it was listed as Single Mix on some promotional singles, which is no different from the album version.

"Stand" was released in two formats in the U.S.; the CD single contains "Stand" and the 0304 trumpet-driven track "Leave the Lights On" as a coupling track, while the CD maxi single contains the song's club mixes. Both singles contained two different covers. International singles received the title track and some club mixes for its final release.

    Alive (Ed Kowalczyk album)

Alive is the debut solo album by former Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk.

    History

Kowalczyk entered the studio in early 2010 to record material that he began writing in 2008. He wrote songs for Alive with an acoustic guitar, as he had when he wrote for Live.

The lyrics on Alive feature much religious and spiritual imagery. Kowalczyk's acknowledgement of his faith is much more explicit on this album than it was on his work with Live. The album entered Billboard's Christian albums chart at number six.

The album entered the charts in the Netherlands, debuting at number four on the Dutch albums chart. It has also charted in the United States, Belgium, and Australia.

    Track listing

All songs written by Ed Kowalczyk, except where noted

  • "Drive"
  • "The Great Beyond"
  • "Grace" (Kowalczyk, Gregg Wattenberg)
  • "Stand" (Kowalczyk, Wattenberg)
  • "Drink (Everlasting Love)" (Kowalczyk, Chris Daughtry)
  • "Zion"
  • "In Your Light"
  • "Just in Time"
  • "Rome"
  • "Soul Whispers"
  • "Fire on the Mountain"
  • "Eat Your Love" (Dutch bonus track)
  • List of Fullmetal Alchemist characters

The Fullmetal Alchemist manga and anime series feature an extensive cast of fictional characters created by Hiromu Arakawa. The story is set in a fictional universe within the 20th Century in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques. Although they basically start the same, the first anime, midway through its run, begins to differ greatly from the original manga; characters that are killed early on in the manga survive to the end of the first anime and vice versa. The second anime's (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) events, however, faithfully follow those from the manga.

The story follows the adventures of two alchemist brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric. While trying to revive their mother, the brothers lost parts of their bodies, with Alphonse's soul being contained in a suit of armor, and Edward replacing his right arm and left leg with two sets of automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb. Advised by Roy Mustang, an alchemist from the State Military, Edward becomes a State Alchemist, and starts traveling with Alphonse through the country of Amestris in order to find a way to recover their bodies. In their search, they hear of the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful alchemy artifact that the brothers can use to recover their bodies. However, after becoming a State Alchemist, Edward discovers that several members of the military are also attempting to get the stone, most notably humanoid creatures known as homunculi, who start chasing the Elric brothers.

    Dante (horse)

Dante (1942–1956) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse who was the last horse trained in northern England to win the English Derby. In a racing career which lasted from the spring of 1944 until June 1945 he ran nine times and won eight races. He was the top-rated British two-year-old of 1944 when he was unbeaten in six races including the Coventry Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes. In 1945 he was beaten when favourite for the 2000 Guineas but won the Derby, despite being afflicted by an eye condition which eventually left him completely blind. He was retired to a successful stud career before dying in 1956.

    Background

Dante was a brown horse with a small white star and one white foot, bred and owned by Sir Eric Ohlson at Manor House Stud in Middleham in North Yorkshire. His dam, Rosy Legend won four races in her native France before being sent to England as a four-year-old. In 1941 she was covered by the stallion Nearco and conceived the foal who would become Dante. In Autumn she was offered for sale following the death of her owner, Lord Furness and was bought for 3,500 guineas by Ohlson. She later went on to produce Dante's full brother Sayajirao, who won the St. Leger Stakes in 1947.Nearco went on to be the Champion sire in 1947 and 1949, and one of the most important sires of the 20th century.

    Stand Alone

    (Verse 1:)
I’m praying for you…! Cause you don’t love him...
So the way you gonna go, you don’t really know,
What are you standing on?, I put you to the cross,
Left without a loss, he saved us from ourselves,
My flesh…! Your flesh…! Will separate us,
So cry out, and pay now, and he will drop you down,
Repent now, confound sent, and you’ll be purified…!
    (Chorus:)
You don’t... Love him... and you don’t even realize, the way you, you hate
Him, oh you would leave the world now, he gave his... life for you, and
That's true love he showed you,
At some point... he’ll walk out, and you will Stand Alone (Alone)!
    (Verse 2:)
(Yeah, uh-huh) I speak to you from this burning of my heart (of my heart)
If he is a Mack truck, put these words in park, (yeah) I am aging wisdom,
Please don’t become a faracy (don’t become a faracy) I’m an older boy from
Front to back but never takes me!... I’m praying for you…! Cause you don’t
Love him…So you go to church, and you do good things, they could be lies to
Marking, do you rep his name, what one six you claim, but does your actions
Prove it? Today self cries, you can not have to cage no, I make you, repent
Now (repent), for god’s kings numbers are hanged now, his blood (his blood)
Came clean (came clean) no matter what you've done! (no matter what you've
    Done)
    (Chorus:)
You don’t... Love him... and you don’t even realize, the way you, you hate
Him, oh you would leave the world now, he gave his... life for you, and
That's true love he showed you,
At some point... he’ll walk out, and you will Stand Alone (Alone)!
    (Verse 3:)
I try to lead you by example but it’s hard, sorry for my absence, so I send
My regards, I am the son of Adam so you know I fall, my daddy picks me up
That's why I stand so tall, just because you said a pair there's gotta be
Change, be it a first John for the Sherman's from the king, I am not here
Just to debate live what you say, become a lion not a lamb don’t become
    It’s prey!
    (Chorus:)
You don’t... Love him... and you don’t even realize, the way you, you hate
Him, oh you would leave the world now, he gave his... life for you, and
That's true love he showed you,
At some point... he’ll walk out, and you will Stand Alone! Stand Alone!
Stand Alone! Stand Alone! and you will Stand Alone! Stand Alone! Stand
Alone! Stand Alone! And you will Stand Alone!...
