Stan Webb

Stanley Frederick "Stan" Webb (born 3 February 1946) is the frontman and lead guitarist with the blues band Chicken Shack.

Career

Webb was born in Fulham, South West London. Initially playing in skiffle bands, Webb formed the first version of the blues band Chicken Shack with bassist Andy Silvester in 1965. The band played in Hamburg, Germany over the next couple of years. They signed to the Blue Horizon record label in 1967, where their label mates were the fledgling Fleetwood Mac. The group was then composed of Webb, Christine Perfect, drummer Dave Bidwell, and bassist Andy Silvester. Bidwell and Silvester would later become the rhythm section of the British blues ensemble, Savoy Brown. Webb also joined Savoy Brown for their album Boogie Brothers. Perfect later joined Fleetwood Mac becoming Christine McVie after her marriage to the band's bassist, John McVie.

Chicken Shack enjoyed their heyday in the mid to late 1960s, when R&B was popular in England. Chicken Shack's line-up has evolved over the years, with Webb being the only constant. Their music was traditional in make-up, and the group covered a variety of American blues standards, as well as composing their own songs. Their repertoire included "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Ellington Jordan and Billy Foster. This song was originally recorded by Etta James.

Stan Webb (footballer)

Stanley John "Stan" Webb (born 6 December 1947) was an English footballer who scored 40 goals from 167 appearances in the Football League playing for Middlesbrough, Carlisle United, Brentford and Darlington in the 1970s. A forward, he also played non-league football for clubs including Whitby Town and Guisborough Town, for whom he scored the club's first FA Cup goal, in the 1978–79 first qualifying round against Consett.

Webb attended Middlesbrough High School, and captained their under-15 basketball team to the English Schools championship in 1963.

The suffix -stan (Persian: ـستان‎‎ -stān) is Persian for "place of" or "country". It appears in the names of many regions, especially in Central and South Asia, but also in the Caucasus and Russia; areas where significant amounts of Persian culture were spread or adopted. The suffix, originally an independent noun, but evolving into a suffix by virtue of appearing frequently as the last part in nominal compounds, is of Indo-Iranian and ultimately Indo-European origin: It is cognate with Sanskrit sthā́na (Devanagari: स्थान [st̪ʰaːna]), meaning "the act of standing", from which many further meanings derive, including "place, location", and ultimately descends from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sthāna-.

The Proto-Indo-European root from which this noun is derived is *steh₂- (older reconstruction *stā-) "to stand" (or "to stand up, to step (somewhere), to position (oneself)"), which is also the source of English to stand, Latin stāre, and Ancient Greek histamai (ἵσταμαι), all meaning "to stand" and Russian стан (stan, meaning "settlement" or "semi-permanent camp"). In Polish and Ukrainian, stan means "state" or "condition", while in Serbo-Croatian it translates as "apartment" (a Slovenian word "stanovanje" means apartment or other closed space of living is an obvious derivative of stan) in its modern usage, while its original meaning was "habitat". In Czech and Slovak, it means "tent" or, in military terms, "headquarters". Also in Germanic languages, the root can be found in Stand ("place, location"), and in Stadt (German), stad/sted (Dutch/Scandinavian), stêd (West Frisian) and stead (English), all meaning either "place" or "city". The suffix -stan is analogous to the suffix -land, present in many country and location names.

Stan!

Stan! (born Steven Brown on 16 October 1964 in Brooklyn, New York City, United States) is an American author, cartoonist, and game designer. He is sometimes credited as Stan Brown.

Biography

Brown was born and grew up on Long Island and attended Binghamton University. Brown began publishing fiction, cartoons, and games professionally in 1982, usually under the pen name "Stan!." He is the author of numerous short stories, novels, roleplaying products, comics and cartoons. He has served as a graphic designer and line editor for West End Games; an editor and game designer for TSR, Inc.; and an author, senior game designer, and creative director for Wizards of the Coast, Inc. He has also been the creative content manager at Upper Deck Entertainment.

In 2007, R. Hyrum Savage formed a subsidiary of his OtherWorld Creations with Brown called Super Genius Games. He has also worked as the creative content manager for Upper Deck Entertainment, and the creative vice president for The Game Mechanics, Inc. Brown is the Creative Director for Super Genius Games. He co-founded The Game Mechanics with JD Wiker, Marc Schmalz, and Rich Redman.

Stan (company)

Stan is an Australian streaming company which offers subscription to unlimited viewing of selected movies and TV shows. Originally due to launch in February 2015, it instead launched on Australia Day (26 January) 2015.

Stan is owned by StreamCo, which is a joint venture of Nine Entertainment Co. and Fairfax Media. Both these companies injected AU$50 million each into StreamCo in August 2014. The service could be bundled with subscriptions to Fairfax Media's newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

It competes against Australian streaming companies Quickflix, the Foxtel/Seven West Media joint venture Presto, and the American based Netflix.

Content

At launch, the first major programming announcement was the exclusive rights to the premiere season of Better Call Saul as well as the rights to Breaking Bad, which previously aired on Foxtel. Australia recorded the highest rates of piracy of Breaking Bad in the world. Stan will also hold rights to Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle.

Webb (Kent cricketer)

Webb (dates unknown) was an English professional cricketer who made five known appearances in first-class cricket matches during the 1781 season.

Webb (crater)

Webb is a small lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern edge of the Mare Fecunditatis, in the eastern part of the Moon near the equator. It is to the north of the prominent crater Langrenus, and west of Maclaurin.

The interior of Webb is relatively dark compared with the inner walls of the rim, and it has a low hill at the midpoint of the interior. On the lunar mare to the north is a faint marking of a ray system that appears to radiate from this crater.

It is named for British astronomer Thomas William Webb.

By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Webb.
