St. Mary's Church (Staten Island)

The Church of St. Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located at 1101 Bay Street, Staten Island, New York City. St. Mary's is the second oldest of the 36 Roman Catholic parishes on Staten Island, having been established in 1852, after St. Peter's (1839), and before St. Joseph's (1855).

Parish history

The parish was established in 1852 by the Rev. John Lewis, an ex-Redeptionist, who arrived in Staten Island that year. Mass was first celebrated in a private house before private land was donated and after a few years a church and rectory were built.

The parochial school was established by the founding pastor, the Rev. Lewis, which in 1914 was conducted by 5 Sisters of Charity of Mount St. Vincent-on-the-Hudson (who also conduct an academy) and 3 lay teachers. The school had, in 1914, 182 boys and 188 girls. The school was among 27 closed by Archbishop Dolan in the Archdiocese of New York on 11 January 2011.

St. Mary's Church (Helsinki)

St. Mary's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Meilahti, Helsinki neighborhood. In 1954 the church was completed and it was designed by architect Kaj Salenius.

The Church has other parts, such as the church hall and rectory. These were corrected in 1976. The interior of the church was renovated in 1985. At that time, the church made an altar on the wall of a deacon by German artist Claus Kilian. The church interior from the outset was completed gradually. Construction has two different dates from the altar. Oldest altar is against the wall, and the current main altar is in the middle of the chancel. The church has a separate baptistery.

The church hall on both sides is composed of the stained glass windows representing the seven corporal and seven spiritual acts of charity.

The church organ dates back from 1965, it was built by Swedish Richard Jacoby. Church bell tower has three bells.

St Mary's and St John's Church is the Anglican parish church in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, England. St Mary's is located in Church Green Road, Bletchley.

History

The church dates from Norman times and the arch of the south doorway is Norman. The chancel is 13th century and there were additions in the 14th and 15th centuries.

More recently, the Church has moved away from a traditional choir and organ and now have a band.

St Mary's Church, Cove Bay

St Mary's (Cove Bay) is an Episcopal Church in Cove Bay, Aberdeen, Scotland. It is part of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney in the Scottish Episcopal Church. Since October 2003, the Episcopal congregation has been sharing the church building with another congregation from Cove Congregational Church. While the two congregations worship separately they do share many aspect of church life.

History of the Church

When the Church was built in approximately 1864, The fishing village of Cove Bay (which is now a suburb of Aberdeen) was largely made up of imported English fishermen and their families for whom the Episcopal (Anglican) faith was a central feature of life. The building originally served a dual purpose as a church and a boys' school, and has been an important part of the village's life for over a century.

From the very beginning there was a strong connection to St Peter's Episcopal Church in Torry. Often when there was no priest at St Mary’s, members would walk along the coastal path to St Peter's for baptisms, confirmations, weddings or funerals.
