St Helens RFC

St Helens Rugby Football Club, nicknamed Saints, is a professional rugby league club, formed in 1873 in St Helens in North West England, who play in the Super League. They were executed at the AJ Bell stadium on 11/02/2016 They were a founder member of the Northern Rugby Football Union and have been league champions on 13 occasions, and runners up 12 times, and are the second joint most successful side in the Challenge Cup with 12 wins in 21 final appearances.

Since 1961 the club's home colours have been white, with a red "V" on the jersey. Saints play their home games at Langtree Park in St Helens, having moved from their previous home, Knowsley Road, in 2012.

History

Early years (1873–1945)

St Helens are one of the oldest members of the Rugby Football League. Founded as St Helens Football Club on 19 November 1873 at the Fleece Hotel by William Douglas Herman, they played their first ever match on 31 January 1874 against Liverpool Royal Infirmary. They became known as St Helens Rangers up until the 1880s. The club moved from the City Ground in 1890 where they had shared with St Helens Recs when neither were members of the Northern Rugby Football Union. They defeated Manchester Rangers in the first match played at Knowsley Road.

Super League XII

Engage Super League XII is the official name for the year 2007's Super League season in the sport of rugby league.

The 2007 season kicked off on the weekend of 2 February 2007 at the Galpharm Stadium. For the first time, the league had a staggered start due to the World Club Challenge between St Helens and Brisbane Broncos. The first round of matches began on the weekend of 9 to 11 February 2007.

Hull F.C. were the defending Super League and Challenge Cup winners. Hull Kingston Rovers played in the Super League for the first time ever after being promoted from National League 1 in 2006. This season also included the first Millennium Magic weekend, which took place on the weekend of 5 and 6 May 2007 in Cardiff.

Super League XII featured 12 teams and had 27 rounds including the Millennium Magic round. St Helens, Leeds, Bradford, Hull FC, Huddersfield and Wigan qualified for the end of season play-offs and Salford City Reds were relegated to National League 1.

The first weekend of the play-offs saw both Bradford and Huddersfield defeated narrowly by both Wigan and Hull respectively. The second weekend of the play-offs saw St Helens defeat Leeds and get an instant passageway into the grand final whilst Wigan overcame Hull at the KC Stadium to set up a semi final encounter with Leeds. The semi final saw Leeds easily dispose of a tired Wigan side that had come from sixth and saw Leeds enter the grand final against St Helens in which they won convincingly to lift the Super League trophy for 2007.

St. Helens, Oregon

St. Helens is the county seat of Columbia County, Oregon. It was founded by Captain H. M. Knighton, a native of New England, in 1845 as "Plymouth". The name was changed to St. Helens in the latter part of 1850 for its view of Mount St. Helens some 39 miles (63 km) away in Washington. The population was 12,883 at the 2010 census.

History

St. Helens was established as a river port on the Columbia River in the 1840s. In 1853, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company tried to make the city their only stop on the Columbia River. Portland's merchants boycotted this effort, and the San Francisco steamship Peytona helped break the impasse.

St. Helens was incorporated as a city in 1889.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through and camped in the area that is now St. Helens on the night of November 5, 1805 while on their way to the Pacific Ocean. While here the party encountered Native Americans and Clark observed "low rockey clifts".

U.S. Route 30 passes through the city.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.51 square miles (14.27 km²), of which, 4.53 square miles (11.73 km²) is land and 0.98 square miles (2.54 km²) is water.

St. Helens (film)

St. Helens, aka St. Helens, Killer Volcano, is a 1981 made for cable HBO film directed by Ernest Pintoff and starring David Huffman, Art Carney, Cassie Yates, and Albert Salmi. The film centers on the events leading up to the cataclysmic 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state, with the story beginning on the day volcanic activity started on March 20, 1980, and ending on the day of the eruption: May 18, 1980.

Plot

The film opens up with an image of Central Oregon's Mount Bachelor and the Central Oregon Cascades, which is the fictional setting for Mount St. Helens itself. On March 20, 1980 an earthquake of 4.1 on the Richter Scale strikes Mount St. Helens, signalling the first signs of volcanic activity in 123 years.

During the first earthquake, a flight of quail becomes disoriented and smashes into the windshield of an Aerospatiale SA341G Gazelle helicopter being used for logging operations. Pilot Otis Kaylor lands the helicopter, only to be accused of nearly killing a group of loggers.
