Squall

A squall is a sudden, sharp increase in wind speed that is usually associated with active weather, such as rain showers, thunderstorms, or heavy snow. Squalls refer to an increase in the sustained winds over a short time interval, as there may be higher gusts during a squall event. They usually occur in a region of strong mid-level height falls, or mid-level tropospheric cooling, which force strong localized upward motions at the leading edge of the region of cooling, which then enhances local downward motions just in its wake.

Character of the wind

The term "squall" is used to refer to a sudden wind-speed increase, both historically and in the present day. In 1962 the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) defined that to be classified as a squall, the wind must increase at least 8 m/s and must attain a top speed of at least 11 m/s, lasting at least one minute in duration. In Australia, a squall is defined to last for several minutes before the wind returns to the long term mean value. In either case, a squall is defined to last about half as long as the definition of sustained wind in its respective country. Usually, this sudden violent wind is associated with briefly heavy precipitation.

Squall Leonhart

Squall Leonhart (スコール・レオンハート, Sukōru Reonhāto) is a fictional character and the primary protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII, a role-playing video game by Square (now Square Enix). He was designed by Tetsuya Nomura, with input from game director Yoshinori Kitase. Squall has appeared in several other games, including Chocobo Racing, Itadaki Street Special, and the Kingdom Hearts series, as Leon (レオン, Reon). His weapon, a gunblade, also appears in other works.

In Final Fantasy VIII, Squall is a 17-year-old student at Balamb Garden, a prestigious military academy for elite mercenaries (known as "SeeDs"). As the story progresses, Squall befriends Quistis Trepe, Zell Dincht, Selphie Tilmitt and Irvine Kinneas and falls in love with Rinoa Heartilly. These relationships, combined with the game's plot, gradually change him from a loner to an open, caring person. Squall had a varied reaction from critics, with some judging him poorly compared to other Final Fantasy heroes (due to his coldness and angst) and others praising his character development.

Squall (NCIS)

"Squall" is the 19th episode of the tenth season of the American police procedural drama NCIS, and the 229th episode overall. It originally aired on CBS in the United States on March 26, 2013. The episode is written by Bill Nuss and directed by Tom Wright, and was seen by 18.62 million viewers.

The team investigates death of a navy medical officer aboard a ship that went through a storm. The prime suspect turns out to be a 4-star admiral, who is also McGee's estranged father.

Plot

In the opening scene, the body of a navy medical officer is found during a storm at sea and quickly determined to have been murdered. The team leaves to investigate at the scene, but McGee is late as a result of being with Adam, a middle school-aged boy he is spending time with through a Big Brothers Big Sisters program. When he arrives at the ship, he encounters his father, John McGee, a 4-star admiral. It immediately becomes apparent that their relationship is somewhat strained.

Meanwhile, Tony and Ziva come across NCIS Agent Stan Burley, who assists in the investigation. Tony shortly afterwards becomes concerned that Burley is attempting to flirt with Ziva, who is "vulnerable" due to her father's recent death, telling McGee, "You see he would use that to his advantage. Swoop right in, like a hawk going after a sweet, innocent, furry little Israeli." However, when Tony speaks with Burley, the latter responds by announcing that he is engaged to be married.

Beni (singer)

Beni Daniels (born March 30, 1986 in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan), is a Japanese-American R&B recording artist, who debuted in 2004 under the Avex Trax label under the name Beni Arashiro (安良城 紅, Arashiro Beni). In 2008, Arashiro left Avex Trax and transferred to Universal Music Japan where she started to perform under the mononym, Beni (stylized as BENI).

She was initially best known for her 2004 single "Here Alone," though later singles after her move to Universal (such as "Mō Ichi do..." with Dohzi-T, "Mō Nido to..." and "Kiss Kiss Kiss") have surpassed this.

Life and career

Start of her career

Born in Okinawa she moved to California and then Yokohama. Her father is American of European descent, and her mother is Japanese. She was influenced by Namie Amuro, Alicia Keys and her father's favorite singer Janet Jackson. She graduated from Nile C. Kinnick High School in Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan. She majored in Sociology at Sophia University.

From a young age she wanted to become a singer and because of her musical parents she took up piano. Because her parents were living overseas she was traveling between Japan and America a lot which exposed her to both Japanese as well as overseas music. When she was in Japan she participated in the Kokuminteki Bishōjo Contest the largest talent contest. She made it all the way to the finals. This was quite special since she had no formal training. When her demotape was seen by Avex Trax they were so impressed by her clear voice, natural beauty, and English pronunciation that they decided to sign her to the label and prepare her for a debut. She became a member of Bishōjo Club 31. Beni was the first from the group to pursue a solo career while being active as a member of the group. Her first solo single named "Harmony" was released on June 9, 2004. The song "Harmony" was a theme song for the Japanese drama Reikan Bus Guide Jikenbo.
