Bíňa

Bíňa (Hungarian: Bény) is a municipality and village in the Nové Zámky District in the Nitra Region of south-west Slovakia.

Geography

The village lies at an elevation of 132 metres (433 ft) and covers an area of 23.501 km² (9.074 mi²).

History

In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1135 written as Byn. Earlier the Romans built a fortress here and in 173 emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote his famous diary in this region during the wars against quadi in the Marcomannic Wars. Later, after the foundation of the Árpád age Hungary, king Stephen I of Hungary gave the region to Bény, son of Hont, the count of the county Hont. During the time of early Christianity every 10 villages was ordered to build a church. Several rotunda have been built in this time, among others the rotunda of Bény, too. In 1217 the Premontre Abbey monastery was founded in Bény in the romanesque style. An earlier built rotunda stands before the two tower abbey church. The patrocinium of the rotunda is The 12 Apostles. Such patrocinium of a rotunda was at village Apostag at the Danube. After the Austro-Hungarian army disintegrated in November 1918, Czechoslovak troops occupied the area, later acknowledged internationally by the Treaty of Trianon. Between 1938 and 1945 Bíňa once more became part of Miklós Horthy's Hungary through the First Vienna Award. From 1945 until the Velvet Divorce, it was part of Czechoslovakia. Since then it has been part of Slovakia.

Bïa Krieger

Bia Krieger is a contemporary singer/songwriter who composes and sings in several styles (and languages), Afro-Brazil, bossa nova, chanson, pop, MPB, samba. Originally from Brazil, she now resides in Montreal Canada. Bia has released nine CDs, and is also the author of a novel (in French), about the dictatorship years in Brazil, Les Révolutions de Marina. It was published in 2009 in Canada.

Early life

Bia and her parents were forced to flee from the military dictatorship that took power in Brazil in 1964, reigning, with terror, until 1974, and not completely ousted until the amnesty of 1980. Prominent cultural figures such as Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil were also forced into exile. Bïa’s family escaped first to Chile, then left Chile for Peru and finally went to Portugal. Bïa spent the age between three and 12 as an exile, and returned to Rio de Janeiro in 1980 to finish her schooling and start university.

Recording career

While in France in 1995 producer Pierre Barouh offered Bia a contract which resulted in her first album, La mémoire du vent, largely a tribute to Chico Buarque. In 1998 Bïa appeared briefly in a film by Claude Lelouche, Hasards ou coincidence, and performed a song of Chico’s on the soundtrack. Concert tours followed, in Japan, Italy and Quebec. Bïa is particularly popular in Quebec, Canada.

Bāṇabhaṭṭa

Bāṇabhaṭṭa (Sanskrit: बाणभट्ट) was a 7th-century Sanskrit prose writer and poet of India. He was the Asthana Kavi in the court of King Harsha Vardhana, who reigned c. 606–647 CE in north India first from Sthanvishvara (Thanesar), and later Kannauj. Bāna's principal works include a biography of Harsha, the Harshacharita (Deeds of Harsha), and one of the world's earliest novels, Kadambari. Bāṇa died before finishing the novel and it was completed by his son Bhūṣaṇabhaţţa. Both these works are noted texts of Sanskrit literature. The other works attributed to him are the Caṇḍikāśataka and a drama, the Pārvatīpariṇaya.

Life

A detailed account regarding his ancestry and early life can be reconstructed from the introductory verses attached to the कादम्बरी and the first two ucchāvasas of the Harṣacarita, while the circumstances behind the composition of the Harṣacarita are described in the third ucchāvasa of the text.

Bāna was born to Chitrabhānu and Rājadevi in the village of Pritikuta on the banks of the Hiraṇyavāhu in a Bhojaka family of Vātsyāyana gotra in the current district of Chhapra. After the death of his father, Bāṇa led a wandering life for a period but later came back to his native village. Here, on a summer day, on receiving a letter from Krishna, a cousin of King Harsha, he met the king while he was camping near the town of Manitara. After receiving Bāna with mock signs of anger, the king showed him much favour.

Konami Code

The Konami Code (Japanese: コナミコマンド, Konami komando, "Konami command") is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games, although the code also appears in some non-Konami games.

During the title screen before the game demo begins, the player could press the following sequence of buttons on the game controller to enable the cheat:

The code has also found a place in popular culture as a reference to the third generation of video game consoles. The code is also present as an Easter egg on a number of websites.

History

The code was first used in the 1986 release of Gradius for the NES but was popularized among North American players in the NES version of Contra, for which it was also dubbed both the "Contra Code" and "30 Lives Code".

The Konami Code was created by Kazuhisa Hashimoto, who was developing the home port of the 1985 arcade game Gradius, a scrolling shooter released on the NES in 1986. Finding the game too difficult to play through during testing, he created a cheat code to give the player a full set of power-ups (normally attained gradually throughout the game). The code was still present in the released Gradius after Hashimoto forgot to remove it. Players discovered and shared the code via word of mouth.

Boston and Albany Railroad

The Boston and Albany Railroad (reporting mark B&A) was a railroad connecting Boston, Massachusetts to Albany, New York, later becoming part of the New York Central Railroad system, Conrail and CSX. The line is used by CSX for freight. Passenger service is still operated on the line by Amtrak (as part of their Lake Shore Limited service), and the MBTA Commuter Rail system, which owns and uses the section east of Worcester as their Framingham/Worcester Line.

History

The Boston and Worcester Railroad was chartered June 23, 1831 and construction began in August 1832. The line opened in sections: to West Newton on April 16, 1834; to Wellesley on July 3; to Ashland on September 20; to Westborough in November 1834; and the full length to Worcester on July 4, 1835. The originally single-track line was doubled-tracked from Boston to Framingham in 1839, and on to Worcester by 1843. In 1843 the B&W introduced season passes to West Newton for $60, effectively introducing the concept of commuter rail.
