2015 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXXI (2015) was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on May 16, 2015 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. Contested over 110 laps, it was the second exhibition race of the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season.

Background

"These updates were made to ensure that our fans have every opportunity to see the best drivers in one of our crown jewel events and give them even more on-track action," said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "Expanding this field and adding laps delivers that to our fans, raising the competition level and ensuring that this race continues to be the biggest all-star event in all of sports."

The All-Star Race was open to Race winners from last season through the 2015 SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway and all previous All-Star race winners and Sprint Cup champions who had attempted to qualify for every race in 2015 were eligible to compete in the All-Star Race. The drivers who finished first in either of the Sprint Showdown 20-lap preliminary races, advanced to compete in the race, as well as the Sprint fan vote winner. The All-Star Race was 110 laps long, separated into five segments: four segments of 25 laps and a final segment of ten laps. A mandatory pit stop was between the final two segments, while pitting between the 25 lap segments was optional. A minimum of 20 drivers took part of the All-Star Race. Seventeen were automatically in the race while three got in via the Showdown. Kyle Busch, who was not expected to return to racing until Independence Day weekend at Daytona International Speedway, announced - via a video on Twitter - that he was coming back for the All-Star Race.

NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, formerly known as The Winston until 2004, then the NEXTEL All-Star Challenge from 2004 to 2007, is an annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car exhibition race between race winners from the previous season and the beginning of the current season, as well as all past event winners, previous Sprint Cup Series champions who attempted to run the entire previous season. Two other ways to become eligible to race in the event are winning one of the two the Sprint Showdown races (a twin 20-lap race for drivers not eligible for the main event), or by winning the fan vote. The race's distance is 110 laps, 165 miles (264 km) and is separated into four segments of 25 laps and a final 10 lap run to the finish.

History

The first running of the race was held in 1985 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (formerly Lowe's Motor Speedway) and has been run there every year except in 1986 when it was run at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Michael Waltrip became the first driver to win the All-Star race after transferring in from a qualifying race in 1996. Until 2001, the rule restricted only champions of the past five Sprint All Star Challenge events, but in 2005, the rule became the winners in the past ten years of either the Sprint Cup or the Sprint All-Star Race. For 2015, the full-time drivers who have won a Sprint Cup or Sprint All-Star Race are now exempt, regardless of when they won the race. The Sprint Showdown was restricted to the top 50 drivers in either the final standings of the previous year or current standings in the current year. From 2000-02, and again starting in 2015, two qualifying races ("Sprint Showdown" currently) are implemented.

All Star

Estranho seria se eu não me apaixonasse por você
O sal viria doce para os novos lábios
Colombo procurou as Índias, mas a Terra avisto em você
O som que eu ouço são as gírias do seu vocabulário
Estranho é gostar tanto do seu All Star azul
Estranho é pensar que o Bairro das Laranjeiras
Satisfeito, sorri quando chego ali
E entro no elevador
Aperto o 12 que é o seu andar
Não vejo a hora de te encontrar
E continuar aquela conversa
Que não terminamos ontem
Ficou pra hoje
