Spoons

Spoons, also known as Pig or Tongue, is a fast-paced game of matching and occasional bluffing. It is played with an ordinary pack of playing cards and several ordinary kitchen spoons or other objects.

Spoons is played in multiple rounds, and each player's objective is to grab a spoon. No spoon may be grabbed until one player has collected a four of a kind, but once the first player to get a four of a kind has grabbed a spoon, all players may immediately reach out to attempt to grab a spoon. No player may grab more than one spoon at a time. As in the game musical chairs, there is always one fewer spoon than there are players, so one player will always be left without a spoon. Depending on the variety of game being played, that player either loses the game and is eliminated, or continues playing but loses a point.

Playing the game

Preliminaries

The game Spoons can be played with 3 or more players, using one or more decks of 52 ordinary playing cards and a number of spoons totalling one fewer than the number of players. Even though the game is famous for the usage of spoons, virtually anything can be used. The spoons are placed in the center of the table in a circle with handles pointing outward so that they may be easily grabbed by any of the players. One person is designated first dealer and deals four cards to each player. The dealer will use the remaining cards to draw from.

Spoons (TV series)

Spoons was a comedy sketch show first broadcast on the United Kingdom's Channel 4 from 30 September 2005. In the United States, Spoons is broadcast on BBC America. The relationship themed show combined recent trends in sketch shows—dark content, strong language, and recurring catchphrases.

It was produced by Endemol owned production company, Zeppotron.

Channel 4 didn't recommission the show for second series due to low ratings and bad reviews.

The programme appeared at around the same time as two other similar sketch series based on relationships—Five's Swinging and BBC Three's Man Stroke Woman.

Adaptation

In March 2008, TV network ProSieben adapted a version of Spoons for German television. The show keeps the original English title, and recycles much of the humour from the original UK version.

DVD release

The complete series featuring all six episodes was released on DVD in the UK on 20 August 2007.

Spoons are a Canadian new wave synthpop band, formed in 1979 in Burlington, Ontario. They recorded several Canadian chart hits between 1982 and 1989, and in 1983, they won Group of the Year at the U-Know awards. Their most popular songs include "Romantic Traffic", "Nova Heart", "Old Emotions" and "Tell No Lies".

    History

Spoons was formed in Burlington, Ontario in 1979. The band initially consisted of Gordon Deppe (lead vocals and guitar), Sandy Horne (vocals and bass), Brett Wickens (keyboards, synths) and Peter Shepherd (drums). Deppe, Horne and Wickens attended Aldershot High School, and Deppe and Horne (the only constant members of the band) dated in high school.

In late 1979, Shepherd left the band and was replaced by Derrick Ross on drums. Spoons then released an independent single, "After the Institution", in 1980 on Mannequin Records, produced by the band and former member Shepherd. Shortly thereafter, Wickens left the band to release an electronica album as part of the duo Ceramic Hello, also on Mannequin Records, and later became a graphic designer designing album covers for such artists as Peter Gabriel. He was replaced by keyboardist Rob Preuss, who was only fifteen when he joined Spoons.
