Spooky (house music duo)

Spooky is a British house/techno duo consisting of Duncan Forbes and Charlie May.

History

They debuted with Gargantuan in 1993 after signing to Guerilla Records. In 1995 and 1996 they released three EPs (Clank, Stereo and Shunt) on their own Generic Records label, followed quickly in mid-1996 by their second album, Found Sound. Two singles from this album were released: Fingerbobs and Bamboo.

In 1999, Charlie May collaborated with Sasha on his Xpander EP, and in 2002 he co-produced some tracks on Sasha's Airdrawndagger album. The same year saw the release of Belong, the first Spooky single on Deviant Records, which Sasha later used on his mix album Involver. A white label single, Andromeda, was released in 2003

A single entitled Strange Addiction was given a limited release in 2005 on Spooky's new self-owned label, spooky.uk.com. "Strange Addiction" featured in a trailer for The Great Global Warming Swindle which broadcast on British analogue Channel Channel 4 in March. This was followed in September 2006 with the release of No Return as a download and promotional CD. Spooky later bought back the rights to their entire back catalogue from the 5 record companies that previously owned their music, which had all gone out of business.

Spooky (New Order song)

"Spooky" is a song by New Order released in 1993 and the final single from their 1993 album Republic. It would be their last single proper until 2001's "Crystal".

CD one featured remixes by Fluke, while CD two featured remixes by Paul van Dyk and Tony Garcia. Several different versions exist, notably the Singles album featured a different edit of "Spooky", which had not previously been available in the UK. The adoption of that version was problematic for some fans who felt that like the Perfecto remix of "World", the Fluke Minimix of "Spooky" was the best single version. The promo video used the Fluke version.

Apart from its appearance on the Singles album, "Spooky" is rarely included on New Order compilations; notably, it was not featured on 1994's best-of or the expansive Retro box set.

Warp (magazine)

Warp was a New Zealand magazine and official organ of the National Association for Science Fiction (NASF), the country's first national science fiction fan organisation.

History

First published in November 1977, Warp continued on a usually two-monthly schedule until the late 1990s, surviving for a short period independently after NASF went into recess. The magazine was published by Transworld. Excluding the APA Aotearapa, Warp was the first New Zealand science fiction publication to reach 100 issues, which it did in June 1995. In all, some 115 editions of Warp were produced. Its largest issues were 44 pages in length.

The location of Warp's publishing varied according to the home city of its editor, although during much of the later 1980s it was based in Christchurch, and during the early and mid 1990s it was based in Dunedin. At times the magazine's schedule was erratic, especially during the late 1980s and shortly before its demise in the late 1990s.

Originally published in A4 format, for much of its run it was A5 in size, returning to A4 shortly before its demise.
