Spoken is the sixth studio album released by the Christian hard rock band Spoken. The album was released on September 25, 2007. Radio singles released from this album include "When Hope Is All You Have" and "Trading in This Troubled Heart".

Critical reception

Awarding the album three and a half stars for CCM Magazine, Andy Argyrakis states, "[Spoken] continue[s] its fiery, hard-rock groundwork, while exploding with additional diversity and heavy-handed experimentation." Russ Breimeier, giving the album four stars at Christianity Today, writes, "The versatility in sound and style ultimately makes this album the best yet from Spoken—even if the first song isn't their strongest." Rating the album an eight out of ten from Cross Rhythms, Jeremy Williams describes, "a heavy album that knows when to pause for breath." Lindsay Wiseman, indicating in a four star review by Jesus Freak Hideout, says, "this album delivers in all aspects." Signaling in a review at The Phantom Tollbooth, Ryan Ro criticizes, "Spoken is yet another unnecessary addition to the Tooth & Nail catalogue, a faceless band in a sea of faceless bands, a clone of a clone of a clone. Pass on this one."

Spoken is a Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, U.S., they have released four studio albums on Tooth & Nail Records and E1 Music.

Band history

Starting in 1996, Spoken quickly became a mainstay in their local music scene due to a relentless work ethic and performance schedule. Shortly after forming, Spoken was signed to their first record deal with Metro 1 Music, on which they released three albums and a greatest hits compilation. With the release of their first album, On Your Feet (1997), and continuing through their second record, …What Remains (1999), the Spoken sound was a combination of rap meets metal and a bit of melodic rock. The third full-length release, Echoes of the Spirit Still Dwell (2000) contained a heavier, more melodic approach to song writing, with songs like "Forevermore" and "This Path" generating repeated rotations on various modern rock radio and video programs across the country.

Spoken signed to Tooth & Nail Records to release their next album, titled A Moment of Imperfect Clarity. This, and their subsequent albums on Tooth and Nail, highlighted an evolving sound in which first melody and then a post-hardcore sound were introduced and stressed. The band shot music videos for "Promise" and "Falling Further"

Dose

Dose (album)

Dose is the second studio album by Gov't Mule. Te album was released on February 24, 1998, by Volcano Entertainment. It was produced, recorded and mixed by Michael Barbiero and is a much darker record than Gov't Mule's self-titled debut album. The songs "Thelonius Beck" and "Birth of the Mule" were tributes to jazz musicians Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, respectively.

Dose (magazine)

Dose is a daily Canadian news website and former daily print magazine. It was a mixture of standalone features and coverage of daily news, sometimes from an irreverent perspective. Each daily issue had a theme, and the top margins of every page usually included trivia items related to the theme.

History

Dose magazine was launched on April 4, 2005, and was distributed in five major Canadian cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa. Different news articles from the five cities are still featured on the website. The magazine hoped to earn revenue through advertising and selling mobile content (via the website) and was aimed at the lucrative demographic of 18- to 34-year-olds. The website targets this market too.

Dose was published by Noah Godfrey, son of CanWest board of directors member Paul Godfrey. The content team included editor-in-chief, Pema Hegan and creative director, Jaspal Riyait. The magazine was the product of Canwest Mediaworks Publications Inc. (originally the Calgary Herald Group), which was in turn part of the same corporate conglomerate, Canwest, that publishes the National Post, among many other newspapers in Canada, including the Montreal Gazette and the Ottawa Citizen. Canwest also controls the Global Television Network in Canada.
