Critical reception
"Energy" received acclaim from music critics with many calling it the best song of the album. Ryan Dombal of Pitchfork gave the song a positive review and named it "Best New Track", stating "The song isn't aimed to any rappers or pop stars, not Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean or Tyga, but the song lines are dangerous."

Details
The song was arranged by veteran songwriter Greg Mathieson and was released as the second single from the album, following the underperformance of the lead single "Mathematics", MCA hoped to reverse the album's fortune by releasing this Hi-NRG track with an aim for the club market.
Melissa Manchester filmed a videoclip to promote the song, which sees the singer and her band in a sort of industrial-setting stage performing the song.
The single was released on 7" and 12" formats featuring remixes, but it failed to chart either on the Billboard Hot 100 or the dance charts, and failed to chart elsewhere. The b-side to the single was a non-album song, called "So Full Of Yourself", which was co-written by Manchester and Tom Snow and used as the b-side to all 3 singles off the album.

Food energy is chemical energy that animals (including humans) derive from their food and molecular oxygen through the process of cellular respiration. (Cellular respiration involves either the process of joining oxygen from air with the molecules of food (aerobic respiration) or the process of reorganizing the atoms within the molecules (anaerobic respiration).)
Humans and other animals need a minimum intake of food energy to sustain their metabolism and to drive their muscles. Foods are composed chiefly of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, water, vitamins, and minerals. Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water represent virtually all the weight of food, with vitamins and minerals making up only a small percentage of the weight. Fiber, a type of carbohydrate, cannot be completely digested by the human body. Ruminants can extract food energy from the respiration of cellulose because of bacteria in their rumens.
Spin (Darren Hayes album)
Spin is the first solo album released by ex-Savage Garden member Darren Hayes. The album was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge and produced by Walter Afanasieff. It was released in Australia in March 2002 and reached the rest of the world later that year. The album has sold over two million copies as of 2011.
Background
Hayes, continuing the trend from his years as Savage Garden's frontman, addresses romance on almost every track on the album. Walter Afanasieff, who had already worked on Savage Garden's Affirmation, oversaw the production of the majority of the album, with help from co-producers Greg Bieck, Rick Nowels and Robert Conley. Afanasieff produced five of the twelve tracks on the original release: "Insatiable", "Heart Attack", "Dirty", "Good Enough" and the title track, "Spin"; Bieck produced "Strange Relationship" and "I Miss You"; Nowels produced "Creepin' Up on You", "I Can't Ever Get Enough of You", "Like It or Not" and "What You Like"; and Conley solely produced the track "Crush (1980 Me)". Afanasieff also produced the Australian only bonus track, "The Heart Wants What It Wants", and the UK Collector's Edition bonus tracks, "I Wish U Heaven" and "Can't Help Falling in Love". Till 2006,the album sold 118,000 in United States.

Lifehouse has managed to drum up a keen balance between pure, guitar-fueled rock and hook-sodden, creatively executed pop – and this song deserves a lengthy stay on the playlists of both formats."
Fergie (DJ)
Fergie (born Robert William Ferguson, 16 November 1979) is an Northern Irish DJ and electronic music artist from Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Initially playing hard house in the DJ sets of his early career, he is now better known for playing and producing House and Techno music. He also presented his own radio show on BBC Radio 1 for 4 years.
Fergie played his first set at the age of 14 in his native Larne. Allegedly a milk crate was used so that he could reach the decks. Being underage, he was soon ejected from the premises by the police. He followed this by building his reputation at Armagh's The Met, promoted by friend Mark Dobbin. Before moving to London he met Tony de Vit while DJing at Lush! in Kelly's, Portrush. De Vit would become Fergie's mentor, playing together at Trade in Turnmills. Through the 1990s he played at clubs across the UK including Sundissential and Godskitchen. He was also popular in Ibiza, DJing at Privilege, Space and Bora Bora. He has featured in the "DJ Mag Top 100 DJs" poll 7 years in a row (between 2000 and 2006) and currently holds the record for the highest new entry since the poll began, achieved when he was voted 8th in 2000. He's currently living in Las Vegas and has secured a residency at the newly opened Hakkasan Nightclub. He is working under the name Fergie (DJ)
