Spin (radio)

In radio broadcasting, a spin is a single play of a song. The term is also used as a unit to measure (or induce) popularity, typically in spins per week. This measure is also known as rotation, and is most heavily used at Top 40 radio stations, some non-traditional radio formats, and others with descendant radio formats.

A song in light rotation is typically aired 5–15 times per week, while a medium rotation tune goes over the airwaves 10-25 times per week. Favored songs in heavy rotation start at 20 or more spins each week, perhaps reaching to 50 and beyond. This results in several spins each day, resulting in a high level of repetition for listeners who tune in for more than just a short amount of time. Most new songs start in the heavy rotation category, but as the song gets older it is eventually downgraded from heavy to medium, then to light, then to retirement in the library.

Born to Die is the second studio album and major-label debut by American singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey. It was released on January 27, 2012 by Interscope Records, Polydor Records, and Stranger Records. Del Rey collaborated with producers including Patrik Berger, Jeff Bhasker, Chris Braide, Emile Haynie, Justin Parker, Rick Nowels, Robopop, and Al Shux to achieve her desired sound. Their efforts resulted in a primarily baroque pop record, which sees additional influences from alternative hip hop, indie pop and trip hop music.

Contemporary music critics were divided in their opinions of Born to Die; some commended its distinctive production, while its repetitiveness and melodramatic tendencies were a recurring complaint. The record debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 77,000 copies; it was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after moving one million units. Born to Die reached the peak position on eleven international record charts, and has sold 8.5 million copies worldwide as of May 2015.

Radio (Darius Rucker song)

"Radio" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Darius Rucker. It was released on July 22, 2013 as the third single from his album True Believers. Rucker wrote the song with Luke Laird and Ashley Gorley.

Content

The song is a reflection on the narrator's teenage years: specifically, of borrowing his mother's car to take his girlfriend for a ride, and listening to songs on the radio while doing so.

Critical reception

The song generally received favorable reviews. Bobby Peacock of Roughstock gave the song four and a half stars out of five, saying that "it sounds like the kind of fun song you would want to hear on the radio at a memorable moment." Peacock praised Rucker's "all-smiles delivery" and the song's "incredibly catchy melody and tight production." He also compared its theme to "I Watched It All (On My Radio)" by Lionel Cartwright. Tammy Ragusa of Country Weekly gave the song an A grade, calling it "the perfect marriage of an artist’s effervescent personality with an upbeat song, this one about the love of music." Billy Dukes of Taste of Country gave the song two and a half stars out of five, writing that "the uptempo tribute to young love, open roads and, of course, the radio is familiar and easy to fall for, especially when powered by Rucker’s unequaled exuberance." However, Dukes also called the song "a little fluffy" and "not difficult to forget."

Radio (Robbie Williams song)

"Radio" is a song by British pop singer Robbie Williams. It was the first single from his hits compilation Greatest Hits, released in 2004. The video includes tattooed cheerleaders in masks doing flips, Williams being fawned over as a snake emerges from his trousers, and Williams' eyes morphing into lizard eyes. The song also features robo-type music.

Chart success

"Radio" became Williams' sixth number one single in the UK Singles Chart, selling 41,734 in its first week. To date the song has sold 100,000 copies in the UK. The song also topped the charts in Portugal and Denmark and reached the top ten across Europe and Latin America. In Australia, the single charted at number-twelve and after seven weeks on the charts, the single was certified Gold.

The song was Williams's last UK number-one for eight years until "Candy" took the top spot in November 2012.

Spin (TV series)

Spin (French: Les Hommes de l'ombre - literally 'The Shadow Men') is a six-episode French television series created by Dan Franck, Frederic Tellier, Charline de Lépine and Emmanuel Daucé, and broadcast from January 25, 2012 on France 2.

In December 2015, it was announced that the series would air in the UK on More4, where it premièred on 8 January 2016 at 21:00.

After the success of the first season in its native France, a second season was commissioned, which premièred on France 2 on 1 October 2014 with 13.5% of the viewing audience. While prime time viewing figures were disappointing, combining those with on-demand numbers led to a more stable audience. A third series was subsequently commissioned.

Synopsis

Season 1

The President of France, visiting a striking factory in Saint-Étienne in the Loire, east-central France, is killed in a suicide attack. Presidential elections are announced for 35 days later and there is no doubt that the Prime Minister, Philip Deleuvre (Philippe Magnan), will run for the Élysée. But what few people know is that the prime minister knows more than he claims. This grand lie causes a return to business of Simon Kapita (Bruno Wolkowitch), a former spin doctor to the late president. Anxious to preserve the honour of his dead friend and some form of political ethics, this "man of the shadows" sets out to find a candidate who will be able to beat Deleuvre — who is being advised by Kapita's former protégé Ludovic Desmeuze (Grégory Fitoussi).

Spin (public relations)

In public relations, spin is a form of propaganda, achieved through providing a biased interpretation of an event or campaigning to persuade public opinion in favor or against some organization or public figure. While traditional public relations may also rely on creative presentation of the facts, "spin" often implies the use of disingenuous, deceptive, and highly manipulative tactics.

Politicians are often accused by their opponents of claiming to be truthful and seek the truth while using spin tactics to manipulate public opinion. Large corporations with sophisticated public relations branches also engage in "spinning" information or events in their favor. Because of the frequent association between spin and press conferences (especially government press conferences), the room in which these take place is sometimes described as a spin room. Public relations advisors, pollsters and media consultants who develop spin may be referred to as "spin doctors" or "spinmeisters" who manipulate the truth and create a biased interpretation of events for the person or group that hired them.

Parallax Propeller

The Parallax P8X32A Propeller chip, introduced in 2006, is a multi-core architecture parallel microcontroller with eight 32-bit RISC CPU cores.

The Parallax Propeller microcontroller, Propeller Assembly language, and Spin interpreter were designed by one person, Parallax's co-founder and president Chip Gracey. The Spin programming language and "Propeller Tool" integrated development environment were designed by Chip Gracey and Parallax's software engineer Jeff Martin.

On August 6, 2014, Parallax Inc. released the Propeller P8X32A Verilog and top-level HDL files under the GNU General Public License 3.0.

Multi-core architecture

Each of the eight 32-bit cores (called a cog) has a CPU which has access to 512 32-bit long words (2 KB) of instructions and data. Self-modifying code is possible and is used internally, for example as the boot loader overwrites itself with the SPIN Interpreter. Subroutines in SPIN (object-based high-level code) utilize a call/return mechanism requiring the use of a call stack. Assembly (PASM, low-level) code does not require a call stack. Access to shared memory (32 KB RAM; 32 KB ROM) is controlled in round-robin fashion by an internal bus controller called the hub. Each cog also has access to two dedicated hardware counters and a special "video generator" for use in generating PAL, NTSC, VGA, servo-control, or other timing signals.
