South Rockwood, Michigan

South Rockwood is a village in Monroe County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,675 at the 2010 census. The village lies at the very southern tip of the Detroit metro area.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.46 square miles (6.37 km²), of which 2.35 square miles (6.09 km²) is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 km²) is water.

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,675 people, 687 households, and 453 families residing in the village. The population density was 712.8 inhabitants per square mile (275.2/km²). There were 734 housing units at an average density of 312.3 per square mile (120.6/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.4% White, 2.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.1% of the population.

There were 687 households of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.1% were non-families. 25.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.95.
