In Search of the Supernatural (搜神記, pinyin: "Sōushénjì," literally "Records of Searching for Spirits") is a 4th century CE Chinese compilation of legends, short stories and hearsay concerning spirits, ghosts and other supernatural phenomena. Although the authorship of the book is not made explicit in the text, it is believed to have been written and compiled by Gan Bao, a historian at the court of Emperor Yuan of Jin (sometimes wrongly referred to as Yü Pao) in 350 AD. The book consists of 464 stories. Pu Songling cites Gan Bao's work as a far greater work than his own, the now famous Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio.

News From Nowhere

by: Seachange

Tradition and roots weigh in heavy when the future is
unsure
unrest in the neighbourhood not seen since years before
the breaking of the news is pouring fuel onto the fire
i start speaking words that i know inside don't seem
right
i met him where the road breaks up to the track into
the woods
he hadn't had a talk for a while he wanted to feel
understood
what he had to say sent shivers
shivers down my spine
dont go until the ground frosts cleared
the rivers higher than people have seen for years
dry bark by the fireside
avoid the eyes of strangers outside
left him in the eye of the storm
he said he needed no-one else at all
he follows the law of the land
its all there to remind me
spent years on long term sick in a terraced house in
town
something inside of him broke and he made the move out
took up a secluded barn with a 10 year stock of
supplies
he says when the church bells ring thats when he'll
know they're near
the way he looked at me sent shivers
shivers to the bones
keep inside until the first green shows
he says the trees tell him all he needs to know
cut off from the rest of the world
nervous speech in riddles and codes
left him in the eye of the storm
he said he needed no-one else at all
he follows the law of the land
its all there to remind me
well did you notice him the other day
there was a tone in his voice which worried me
we think he may be alone from us now
he may be further in
be smart, be still
take the action now
you're yelling about a time thats gone
cause and effect
take a step back step back step back
dont go until the ground frosts cleared
the rivers higher than people have seen for years
dry bark by the fireside
avoid the eyes of strangers outside
left him in the eye of the storm
he said he needed no-one else at all
he follows the law of the land
its all there to remind me
well thank you
somehow you helped me through
the centres founder speaks
says all these people are freaks
and i sympathise but thats as far as it goes
he says all he needs is a loving wife
forgotten about the hours they spent
under the water tower
